Summary About the Position: This position is located at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital on Fort Campbell. Recruitment or relocation incentives MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency Duties Cleans operating room post-surgery, removes and disposes of soiled and/or contaminated materials. Conducts sponge, sharps, and instrument counts with the charge nurse, verifying total count at end of surgical procedures or change of personnel. Passes instruments to the surgeon and maintains alertness for complications developing during surgery. Screens each patient to ensure all requirements are met and transports patients from the hospital units to the operating room. Selects, assembles, and organizes required supplies, equipment, and instruments in accordance with operative work sheets, physician preference cards and/or conferring with physicians or charge nurse. Orients and trains newly assigned personnel and students explaining operating room procedures and requirements. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position has been designated "Mission Essential". This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of less than 5% of the time. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. This position may require the incumbent to work on a regular and reoccurring shift rotation schedule. This position requires incumbent to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE). This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing. This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct. 96, which requires the incumbent to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes cleaning and processing instruments, restocking supplies, preparing operating room post-surgery, and monitoring case progress (e.g. patient status changes, phases of procedures, preparing with items prior to being asked). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Nursing and Healthcare Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
