Summary
This vacancy is for an Administrative Specialist position in the U.S. Census Bureau, Field Division, Regional Office locations. Few positions are available at each of five (5) Regional Office locations.
This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Administrative Specialist, 0301-12 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Duties
Plans, organizes, and carries out the administrative support responsibilities within the Regional Offices/Regional Census Centers.
Provides administrative support including payroll, recruiting, personnel management, performance management, operational cost and progress, supply and space management, security, safety, accident reporting, and telephone communications.
Trains staff in personnel/payroll procedures, progress reporting and other administrative activities, to include E-Verify
Provides technical and administrative supervision to a small staff of subordinates less than 25% of duty time.

This is a NON-BARGAINING unit position.
The work schedule for this position is Mixed Tour.
With a Mixed Tour work schedule, an employee may be changed between full-time, part-time and intermittent work schedules to accommodate fluctuating workloads and is subject to a signed agreement.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes planning, organizing, and carrying out the administrative support responsibilities within an office setting; carrying out work independently for the technical and administrative leadership to a small staff of subordinates; experience in the range of administrative office regulations, policies, procedures and systems, including supplies, safety, telecommunications, hiring, training, and other personnel actions which serve to facilitate the work of a regional office; knowledge and skilled in using personal computer office systems software for work processing, data entry and transmission, and report preparation; skilled in conducting research applying standardized analytical methods and techniques to accurately assess gathered information and recommend ways to improve service delivery.
Education: Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
