Summary About the Position: This position is located at Evans Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Learn more about this agency Duties Perform regular and modified salad preparation tasks such as making fruit and vegetable salads. Prepare limited breakfast foods that will involve grilling or frying. Perform patient tray service duties to include the assembly of patient trays. Set up and replenishing the salad bar in accordance with established procedures. Operate a variety of kitchen equipment, which utilizes gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources. Arrange food items for regular and modified diets. Maintain proper food safety and sanitation standards. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Personnel Security Investigation is required. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A pre-placement medical examination is required. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as preparing and cooking a variety of simple menu items that require little or no processing; setting up and serving hot and/or cold food on cafeteria and patient tray lines adhering to portion control; following safety and sanitation procedures in food handling and in cleanup. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. There is constant standing and walking, bending and stooping, and occasional lifting up to 45 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Working areas are often uncomfortably warm and noisy. Incumbent is exposed to minor cuts, burns, bruises, and scalds. There is danger of slipping on floors which are wet from mopping and spilled liquids. Incumbent may be exposed to extreme temperatures of heat and cold from the hot kitchen to the refrigerated areas. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
