Summary
This vacancy is for an IT Specialist (Systems Administration) position at the Department of Commerce, U.S. Census Bureau,Field Division, Regional Offices. Few positions are available. located in the Atlanta and Denver Regional Offices.
Duties
Develop software and IT systems so that they are configured in accordance with security baselines and policy with regard to access control and account management.
Develop security procedures and tools; ensure systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
Develop complex routines and detailed sequences of internal program logic by coding, testing, and debugging.
Assist in the management of systems resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.

This is a NON-BARGAINING unit position.
The work schedule for this position is Mixed Tour.
With a Mixed Tour work schedule, an employee may be changed between full-time, part-time and intermittent work schedules to accommodate fluctuating workloads and is subject to a signed agreement.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of IT Specialist (Systems Administration), at GS-2210-11/12, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below.
Qualifications can be met by either the requirements specified in the section titled Experience or the requirements specified in the section titled Education.
Experience:
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
AND
Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes performing specific tasks, such as coding, testing, and/or debugging complex program units while applying IT standards, policies, and established system design approaches; supporting a networked IT environment with emphasis on end user support and training; managing information systems in an office environment while resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems; and communicating of IT material to audiences of varying technical background;
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes performing specific tasks such as coding, testing, and/or debugging complex program units, while developing software and systems in accordance to security and policy; supporting a networked IT environment with emphasis on end user support and training while testing procedures, analyzing, and evaluating results; managing information systems in an office environment while resolving hardware/software, interface and interoperability problems; and communicating of IT material to audiences of varying technical background with an ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.

Education
Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
GS-11
YOU MAY QUALIFY FOR THE GS-11 BASED ON EDUCATION: possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; possess three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
GS-12:
Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience at this grade level.
