Summary About the Position: This position is located at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency Duties Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment to ensure proper working operation. Designs and waxes single unit and multiple unit fixed partial denture substructures for full metal or porcelain application and function. Fabricates ceramic restorations using pressed and computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) dental technology. Surveys, blocks-out, waxes, invests, bolls out and packs complete and partial dentures to receive acrylic resin. Provides individual and group training to section’s dental personnel, such as technicians, to maintain and improve quality workmanship. Fabricates and repairs removable prostheses to include partial denture frameworks, orthodontic appliances, sleep apnea devices, complete dentures, translational partial dentures and implant supported/retained prostheses. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds may be required. A Personnel Security Investigation is required. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes interpreting and applying dental prescriptions, fabricating fixed and removable dental prosthesis, utilizing advanced digital dentistry software, and providing technical assistance to dental laboratory staff and students. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education Substitution: Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Dentistry from an accredited college or university. OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Licensed Dentist: Licensed professional dentists will be considered qualified for any grade level if they have, in the aggregate, the required experience in dental laboratory procedures. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
