Learn more about this agency Duties Intelligence Analysts have the power to influence world affairs. They provide the most complete possible foreign signals intelligence picture to U.S. policy makers and military commanders. Intelligence Analysts seek creative analytic solutions to answer the nation's continually evolving top security questions. NSA Intelligence Analysts are hired into either a technical mission office or the Intelligence Analysis Development Program (IADP), which lasts up to three years. The IADP is designed to provide an intensive, accelerated opportunity to acquire the unique technical skills and experience needed to successfully apply knowledge and analytic ability to the Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) mission and help analysts achieve core analytic competencies in accordance with the Intelligence Analysis Professional Development Standards (IAPDS). The program includes 4-5 operational tours in a variety of offices, interspersed with formal classroom and computer-based training. These on-the-job operational tours are primarily focused on the two main SIGINT disciplines of intelligence analysis - SIGINT reporting and SIGINT development. Intelligence Analysts are at the forefront of implementing NSA's mission, and they do so in a variety of ways: - Research and understand foreign intelligence targets, how they operate and how they fit in the larger geo-political context - Apply new techniques and develop creative solutions to address analytic problems such as synthesizing large volumes of data and disparate sources of information - Demonstrate a firm understanding of the communications environment and technology trends of foreign intelligence targets - Craft written assessments of foreign intelligence that provide unique insight into target intentions unavailable from other intelligence disciplines - Work independently and collaborate effectively (both within NSA and with other analysts in the Intelligence Community) in research, analysis, and reporting. Requirements Conditions of employment Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a security background investigation and polygraph. Qualifications The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. A degree in any field is acceptable. Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following: performing intelligence or language analysis; writing, editing, or producing technical/analytic reports or products (e.g., working aids, briefings); conducting research and analysis using established professional methods and techniques; data/information management in an area directly related to an NSA mission; threat analysis, risk analysis, or traffic analysis; geospatial analysis and/or geospatial information systems; or drafting/editing intelligence reports. Experience may also include multi-source or technical threat analysis (e.g., SIGINT, ELINT, FISINT, Open-Source, and Geospatial) or experience in a similar mission in the IC or DoD. Note: For development program hires, the experience requirement may be met with more general analytic, problem solving, and/or investigative experience. ENTRY/DEVELOPMENTAL Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 4 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree and no experience. FULL PERFORMANCE Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience. Additional information Pay: Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Salary Range: $50,460 - $133,142 (Entry/Developmental, Full Performance) Salary range varies by location, work level, and relevant experience to the position. Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, with basic 8hr/day work requirement between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (flexible). DCIPS Trial Period: If selected for this position, you will be required to serve a two-year DCIPS trial period, unless you are a veterans' preference-eligible employee, in which case you are required to serve a one-year trial period. This trial period runs concurrently with your commitment to the position, if applicable. Before finalizing your appointment at the conclusion of your trial period, NSA will determine whether your continued employment advances the public interest. This decision will be based on factors such as your performance and conduct; the Agency's needs and interests; whether your continued employment would advance the Agency's organizational goals; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Upon completion of your trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. If you do not receive certification for continued employment, you should receive written notice prior to the end of your trial period that your employment will be terminated and the effective date of such termination.
