The primary purpose of this position is to develop the WG-5306-08 Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic via the approved AF Civil Engineering HVAC Technical Training Plan to further technical development. Learn more about this agency Duties Performs developmental assignments consisting of tasks which have been selected to develop skills to the Journey Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic level. Works with highest graded mechanics repairing and maintaining a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems used to condition areas and cool equipment. Selects tools, decides on methods and techniques to use, and installs a variety of parts including major portions of assigned systems and equipment, applying and interpreting information in blueprints, charts, and sketches. Replaces separate small air conditioning units and small systems. Recognizes the cause of faulty equipment. Traces and locates defects, determines nature and extent of repairs required, selects appropriate tools, testing devices, and work sequence. Utilizes established safety practices, rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment. Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. This position may require travel Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft Employee will be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license may be required for the position Position requires CFC/NCFC 608 Certification (universal) as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F., EPA The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc Technical Practices Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
