Summary
The Radiology Department is responsible for supporting the mission of the Clinical Center by performing diagnostic/research studies for patients on clinical protocols. This position serves as the Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT/GEN) performing multi-modality examinations within the CT/GEN X-RAY functions.

Duties
As a GS-0647-10 Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT-General) your duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Monitoring and assisting patients before, during and after examinations.
Maintaining patient and hospital confidentiality while providing quality care to patients of varying age groups and clinical categories (i.e. pediatric, geriatric, adolescent).
Performing quality control analysis and corrections and completes all RIS requests in a timely manner; and ensures transfer of images/results to PACS for radiologists' review.
Assisting research staff in various specialist projects involving obscure diagnostic problems.
Performing CT scanning according to the correct protocol-administers oral and IV contrast media as ordered for the various exams.
Performing radiographic imaging and assists in fluoroscopic imaging, both in the radiology department and/or at bedside on the various nursing areas in the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT-General) GS-0647-10:
You must have:
(1) successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the credentialing standards described in 42 CFR Part 75 that is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education,
AND
(2) be certified as a radiographer in your field.
The following meets the above standards:
1. Persons employed by the Federal Government as a radiologic personnel prior to January 13,1986 who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
2. Persons first employed by the Federal Government as a radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State of foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation,
OR
(b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
Additional Qualifications requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following tasks: applying multi-modality procedures and perform multi-modality examinations within CT/GEN X-RAY; counseling patients regarding the risks/benefits of the procedure and producing images for the examination; monitoring scanner and computers for any malfunction so corrective action can be taken; assisting in the design and planning of new imaging methods and techniques; assisting in operating scanner software and computer operating systems; and assisting in maintaining patient records and logs of patient's images for research review.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
Based on your appointment, a one or two-year trial/probationary period may be required. A decision regarding your continued employment with NIH will be made as you near the end of this period.
The work requires extreme periods of standing and walking, and lifting of heavy or debilitated patients and clinical equipment. Reaching and lifting may be required to properly direct equipment to the body part/area being examined or positioning patients who are unconscious or disabled requires considerable effort and working in awkward positions. Heavy lifting of totally incapacitated patients is done only with the help of other employees. A lead-protective apron must be worn at all times during fluoroscopic procedures and x-ray exposures.
The work area is well lighted and temperature controlled. Special safety precautions are used to reduce exposure to radiation. These include using minimum radiation settings with all equipment and never operating the equipment except from behind a protective screen.
