Advancing Transplant Care at Mercy Health in Northwest Ohio Physician Assistant Opportunity
Job Description
Mercy Health in Toledo, Ohio is launching a new Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery program,
expanding access to advanced, life-saving care for patients across northwest Ohio. As this exciting
program grows, we are seeking a Physician Assistant who is drawn to collaborative practice,
meaningful patient relationships, and the opportunity to help build a service line from its
foundation.
This role offers the chance to join a developing transplant program and work alongside
an experienced, multidisciplinary team caring for patients undergoing solid organ transplantation
and complex hepatobiliary surgical procedures.
Position Overview
As a Physician Assistant, you will
provide comprehensive care to transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients across the continuum of
care. This includes involvement in pre-operative evaluation, inpatient management, operative
assistance, and post-operative follow-up in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Clinical
Responsibilities
Participate in pre-transplant and pre-operative evaluations
Manage inpatient
transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients, including daily rounds and care coordination
Assist
in the operating room during transplant and related surgical procedures
Provide post-operative
management, including monitoring for complications
Prescribe and manage medications, including
immunosuppressive therapies, in accordance with protocols
Order and interpret diagnostic tests and
laboratory studies
Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice
Educate patients and families
throughout the transplant and surgical care journey
Practice Environment
This is a full-time
position with a balanced mix of inpatient care, outpatient clinic, and operating room
responsibilities. As a new program, the role includes structured mentorship and a supportive
onboarding process, with increasing autonomy as experience and program volume grow. The team culture

care.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Current or eligible
Physician Assistant licensure in the state of Ohio
NCCPA certification
BLS and ACLS
certification
Ability to work independently while collaborating closely within a multidisciplinary
team
Experience in transplant, hepatobiliary surgery, general surgery, or critical care is
welcomed, though motivated candidates with a strong interest in complex surgical care are encouraged
