This position is part of the Government Secure and Intelligent Documents, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia
Duties
Maintains ledger of numbered passports and cartons shipped; maintaining accurate records
Security wraps (tapes) each carton with re-enforced tape and writes passport numbers on the labels; electronically logs passport numbers into the warehouse management system
Reviews completed jobs by verifying quantities and packaging requirements with jacket instructions or by verifying jacket/copy quantities requirements with weight counts received
Loads cartons onto skids and then bands and transports skids by hand operated power truck
Fills and/or refills label feeder with large spool or roll of labels; adjusts speed and height of labeler when necessary

U.S. Citizenship is Required.
Selectee must pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
Selectee must undergo a background investigations for a Secret Clearance.
Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
Selectee must obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
Strength test may be required.
Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated area.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Printing Plant Worker (Bindery), KX-4402-04 position, applicants must meet the following Screen Out-Element: #1 - Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision.
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration.
In addition to the SCREENOUT, applicants must also have the ability to perform the following:
Logs data into warehouse management system, such as passport numbers, receipts, and billing packing for loads
Reviews completed jobs to verify accuracy of jacket instructions
Fills and/or refills label feeder, making adjustments as necessary
Stacks empty cartons into carton feeder and restacks when problems arise
Operates hand operated power trucks
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).
Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret Clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
