Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a Marine Machinery Mechanic XF-5334-9/10/11, position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division (SWD), Galveston District, Operations Division.

Duties
At the Target Grade XF-11 you will:
Perform major maintenance and complete overhauls of all machinery and equipment located on floating plant.
Work independently exercising judgment and initiative to determine need for and extent of repairs to maintain equipment in continuous operation to the fullest extent possible.
Establish and ensure compliance with an extensive Preventive Maintenance Program for all Maintenance Section equipment.
Maintain current and accurate records of operation, maintenance, and shop manuals and drawings.
Put the operation and maintenance records into the USACE's automated facilities and equipment maintenance system (FEM).
Read and interpret detailed mechanical and electrical drawings in order to adequately maintain assigned equipment.
Provide scheduling and budget information for maintenance and major fleet repairs for all Maintenance Section equipment.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Incumbent must comply with safety regulations, occupational safety and health standards, and other safety directives and orders.
Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in accomplishment of assigned duties.
Pre-employment and annual physical examinations are required.
Frequent local travel and Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) business travel required up to 50% of the time.
This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) - This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Elements):
XF-5334-09 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Marine Machinery Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision by applying duties of assisting with major overhauls or the removal/installation of complex marine engine components. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
XF-5334-10 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Marine Machinery Mechanic ~ by independently troubleshooting mechanical issues and other related equipment aboard floating plants and interpreting standard drawings. -Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
XF-5334-11 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Marine Machinery Mechanic ~ by independently repairing complex mechanical failures, tearing down and completely overhauling marine internal engines, and using detailed mechanical/electrical drawings to complete repairs and/or other related equipment aboard floating plants. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to stand, walk, and climb most of the time in performing assigned duties. Frequently reaches, bends, pulls, pushes, and lifts in order to move/install/repair heavy machinery equipment. Lifts objects up to 100 pounds with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in inclement weather conditions and exposed to open river conditions when working on marine floating plant equipment and is subject to dangers such as wet and/or slippery surfaces, snagged ropes and cables, and drowning. Works in confined/enclosed areas such as spaces between bulkheads and decks and the proximity of machinery. Conditions are subject to exhausts, fumes, noises, and cramped/awkward/uncomfortable positions. Works around moving/rotating/reciprocating machinery where there is danger of injury due to falls, cuts, bruises, and burns. Various protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves and hard hats are used.
