Summary About the Position: Keller Army Community Hospital, Keller (ACH) West Point, New York, 10996-1197, Outpatient Medical Records Department. The working environment is a climate controlled office with cubical like spaces, normal working hours are Monday-Friday 0730-1600 unless on-call. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency Duties Serve as a Medical Record's Technician in the Outpatient Medical Records Branch, Patient Administration Division, Keller Army Community Hospital (KACH). Responsible for maintaining custody and control of service treatment and outpatient medical records for beneficiaries as named in AR 40-66, 40-400 and civilian emergencies. Process incoming requests for medical information and verify that proper authorization for release of medical information is included with the request. Maintain custody of service treatment and outpatient medical records according to regulatory guidelines and local policies. Provide information and answer a wide variety of technical questions about medical records without compromising confidentiality of the patients. File records returned from the clinics using the terminal digit or alphabetical filing system. Receive walk in patients requesting assistance with records and general hospital information. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. A pre-placement medical examination is required. Lifting up to 25lbs. is required. A seasonal influenza immunization is required unless exempt. Position may be designated as Mission Essential. This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules. A Personnel Security Investigation is required. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with maintaining control log for medical records to track status of requests and other pertinent information; processing of records for shipment; and assembling documents in the medical records in the order outlined in the regulation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
