Summary Joining the Secret Service, Office of Field Operations, Criminal Investigative Division will allow you to provide critical assistance during the entire forfeiture process to ensure a timely resolution to the seizure and forfeiture of property. Duties The selectee will serve as an Asset Forfeiture Specialist in the Office of Field Operations, Criminal Investigative Division. Typical work assignments include: Processing forfeiture of property and assets seized by Secret Service agents while ensuring applicable guidelines, administrative and legal functions associated with the seizures of property for forfeiture are in alignment. Reviewing documents from various databases to research judicial forfeitures and to keep abreast of data to assist special agents in forfeiture cases. Providing guidance during the execution of search and seizure warrants to ensure that the property targeted for seizure is legally obtained; participating in the location of the asset; documenting inventory of the seized items and coordinating logistics such as towing and/or transportation/storage of the seized items. Overseeing financial transactions related to victim payments, transfers to the Treasury Forfeiture Fund and financial sharing request submitted by other law enforcement agencies. This Asset Forfeiture Specialist position starts at a salary of $85,447.00, GS -11, step 1, with promotion potential to $158,322.00, GS-13 step 10. Qualifications To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying. You qualify for the GS-11 level (starting salary $85,447.00) if you possess one of the following: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level performing duties such as: Reviewing financial transactions and other investigative reports related to seizure and forfeiture of assets to ensure the scope of laws or policies are not exceeded in developing probable cause. Reviewing routine forfeiture notices for criminal and civil judicial cases. Reviewing and processing forfeiture requests according to policies and procedures. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, LL.M., or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $102,415.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing duties such as: Utilizing the Civil Asset, Forfeiture, Reformation Act (CAFRA) and other applicable laws to legally execute forfeiture procedures. Processing forfeitures under forfeiture statutes, criminal and/or administrative. Researching and analyzing facts to evaluate claims or review petitions. Preparing documentation related to forfeiture actions, such as legal notices, case files, and administrative records. The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
