Thyme Care is a value-based oncology management platform that provides personalized, clinically coordinated care to individuals with cancer. Thyme Care pairs human guidance with software and analytics to engage members with a cancer diagnosis , quickly connect them to the right care, and provide ongoing support through targeted, evidence-based interventions. The company’s unique approach establishes deep provider relationships and integrates with a health plan’s existing infrastructure, coordinating value-driven care that leads to better outcomes, lower costs and an improved member experience. Backed with venture funding from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Alley Corp, Frist Cressey Ventures, Casdin Capital and Bessemer, Thyme Care partners with health insurance plans and providers to extend the reach of high-quality cancer care through flexible value-based payment arrangements, including risk-based programs.

As Thyme Care’s first actuary, you will work with the Data, Growth, Product, and Finance teams to lead the development and execution of valued-based contracts with health plans and providers. You will play a key role in defining the future of value-based care in managing oncology populations. You will be an active, hands-on contributor to the pre-contract opportunity analysis, performance forecasting, benchmarking, and contract design. You will also have ownership of ongoing monitoring of performance, risk-reserve calculations and risk mitigation during the execution of contracts.

You will work closely with the Data Science and Product teams to develop Thyme Frame, our data and analytics platform, that allows Thyme Care to identify meaningful drivers of cost of care and translate these opportunities into complex actuarial and financial models in a scalable way. Ultimately, Thyme Frame will allow our clinical team and our partners to understand their oncology population deeply to develop impactful population management processes and clinical programs.

Over the next 12 months you will have: 

  • Directed how Thyme Care evaluates the risk and structures in health plan partnerships, while informing key business, product, and personnel investments to support and grow existing and new partnerships.
  • Worked with the data team to develop quality and performance measurement methodologies and actuarial models to accurately and adequately measure the success of our interventions and how they translate into financial results.
  • Incorporated various risk-mitigation strategies into Thyme Care’s contract designs, while developing advanced payment models for oncology populations.
  • Monitored performance and risk reserve calculations.
  • Developed new approaches for value based contracts (for example: episode pricing, formulary management programs) with our provider partners to control risk and design the right incentive structures.

  • Expertise. You have 5+ years of experience with healthcare data and developing actuarial models. You have reserving experience and understand the concept of claims restatement. You are comfortable with SQL to explore data on your own.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. You have experience working on highly ambiguous problems, where solutions are developed via a rigorous and intellectually honest iterative process.
  • Strong translator. You are able to clearly explain complex actuarial concepts and financial models to business leaders to inform their decisions.
  • Biased to action. You’re a self-starter and don’t need anyone to tell you when to do something.
