AI Documentation Transformation Consultant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AI Documentation Transformation Consultant based in the United States.

This role focuses on transforming and modernizing enterprise documentation systems by integrating AI-driven approaches into content operations, governance, and knowledge management. You will lead the redesign of documentation operating models across complex technical environments, ensuring content is scalable, consistent, and optimized for AI-assisted workflows. The position requires a strong blend of technical writing expertise, content strategy, and transformation consulting experience. You will assess existing documentation ecosystems and build future-ready frameworks that improve efficiency, reuse, and quality. Working closely with product, engineering, support, and technical writing teams, you will shape how knowledge is created, managed, and delivered at scale. This is a strategic consulting role where your work directly influences documentation quality, operational maturity, and AI adoption across the organization.

• Assess current documentation ecosystems, including workflows, tools, governance models, and content quality across technical products and knowledge bases.
• Design and implement a future-state, AI-enabled documentation operating model that improves creation, maintenance, reuse, and governance.
• Define and standardize information architecture, taxonomy, metadata structures, versioning systems, and end-to-end content lifecycle processes.
• Identify, design, and pilot AI use cases for documentation workflows such as drafting, summarization, content reuse, and knowledge optimization.
• Evaluate documentation platforms and tools, recommending improvements to systems, integrations, and operational efficiency.
• Establish governance frameworks, ownership models, review processes, and documentation health metrics to ensure long-term sustainability.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to drive adoption of new documentation practices and enable organizational change at scale.
• Deliver actionable roadmaps, playbooks, and implementation strategies to support ongoing transformation beyond the engagement.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in technical documentation, content operations, knowledge management, or related consulting roles.
• Proven track record of transforming documentation systems, content strategies, or enterprise knowledge management frameworks.
• Hands-on experience designing or implementing AI-assisted content workflows or large-scale documentation transformation initiatives.
• Strong expertise in information architecture, taxonomy design, metadata management, and full content lifecycle governance.
• Experience with documentation or knowledge platforms such as Confluence, SharePoint, MadCap Flare, Document360, or similar tools.
• Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and change management skills in complex organizational environments.
• Experience working with highly technical products, enterprise software, or cybersecurity domains is strongly preferred.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and consulting skills with the ability to translate complex needs into structured solutions.
