As the Associate Counsel, you will provide versatile legal support across various departments focusing on intellectual property, product liability, marketing, and social media. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for an emerging legal professional to deepen their expertise while directly impacting our business operations.
This is a hybrid role. This person will be required to report to work at Hot Topic in City of Industry, California at least two days per week.
Pay range is $100K - $120K

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Draft, negotiate, and revise diverse contracts, including intellectual property license agreements, NDAs, social media influencer agreements, and SaaS agreements. Ensure that all contracts align with company policies and mitigate potential risks.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and tailor contracts accordingly.
- Advise on intellectual property issues and assist in managing our trademark portfolio with the guidance of outside counsel.
- Advise on marketing-related legal matters, ensuring compliance with FTC guidelines, social media endorsement regulations, and advertising laws. Review and approve marketing materials to ensure they meet legal standards.
- Consult on product safety and liability to mitigate risks and uphold our standards and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Support promotional activities by drafting and reviewing terms and conditions for sweepstakes, contests, and other promotional events. Ensure that promotional materials comply with relevant laws and regulations.
- Perform legal research and contribute broadly to our business needs.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external counsel to address and resolve ongoing legal concerns.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in California and in good standing.
- 1+ years of experience in legal roles, with exposure to contract law, intellectual property, or corporate law.
- Preferred experience in copyright, trademark, product safety, social media, or marketing compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various business teams.
- Critical thinker with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
