Location

This Associate Software Engineer position can be based either in Irving, TX or Abbott Park (Lake Bluff), IL.

Main Purpose of Role

We are looking for a full-time Associate Software Engineer with knowledge of C#/.NET. As a part of the team, you will be responsible for coding and testing applications.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining applications in an enterprise architecture environment within .NET framework using C#.
  • Responsible for design and documentation of complex technology solutions.
  • Responsible for enhancing applications based on business requirements using approved technologies and coding standards.
  • Liaises with technical lead to arrive at implementation decision choices.
  • Assist with work estimations based on requirements and technical designs.
  • Perform code reviews, and help maintain code quality, performance, and application responsiveness.
  • Work in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science with 0-2 years of related experience or associate degree with a minimum 4 years of related experience.
  • Detailed understanding of software application development using object-oriented analysis and design.
  • Detail understanding with design patterns, C#, and C++.
  • Detailed understanding of database design and development.
  • Experience with UML object-oriented design notation.
  • Ability to change software code in pre-existing functions following defined guidelines.
  • Ability to follow defined guidelines to add or change unit tests to cover the code produced.
  • Ability to develop, build, test, and debug code.
  • Ability to perform functional testing of the code produced.
  • Capable of understanding existing product software designs.
  • Capable of contributing to design review and documentation.
  • Follows defined software development lifecycle procedures and Abbott's quality system procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.
  • May be required to travel occasionally within the U.S (United States) or abroad as required per project assignment.
  • Ability to work in an IVD regulated software environment for computer-controlled instrumentation.

Preferred

  • Experience with software desktop application development using Microsoft .NET technology with Microsoft stack.
  • Experience with UI (User Interface) design and development using Windows WPF/XAML.
  • Experience with MS-SQL databases, Query performance evaluation.
  • Experience using Entity Framework.
  • Software development in a team environment using Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in Atlassian suite - Bamboo, JIRA, Bitbucket and confluence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
