The Personalis NeXT Platform® is designed to adapt to the complex and evolving understanding of cancer, providing its biopharmaceutical customers and clinicians with information on all of the approximately 20,000 human genes, together with the immune system, from a single tissue sample. In population sequencing, Personalis operates one of the largest sequencing operations globally and is currently the sole sequencing provider to Veterans Affairs' Million Veteran Program. To enable cancer and population sequencing, Personalis' Clinical Laboratory was built with a focus on clinical accuracy, quality, big data, scale and efficiency. The laboratory is GxP-aligned as well as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988-certified and College of American Pathologists-accredited.

Summary

This position is field based and promotes the company’s immuno-oncology portfolio of services targeting early biomarker discovery, translational research, clinical trials, and cancer vaccine development. The Associate Director Biopharma Business Development is primarily responsible for growing and developing existing accounts at key pharmaceutical accounts and is able to develop strong relationships ranging from C level executives to scientific directors within an account. A key objective is to ensure the territory financial objectives are met.  This role works cross functionally with project management, R&D, Business Development and marketing colleagues within Personalis and is responsible for bringing new clients.


Responsibilities

  • Drive consultative Business Development by building trust/credibility with client, understanding client context and business requirements, connecting client needs to our capabilities, and articulating the benefits Personalis within the Pharma/Biopharma space
  • Demonstrate strong command of Personalis’ NGS-based solutions for Immuno-oncology and targeted therapies for use in Pharma IO and Vaccine clinical trials
  • Write and present proposals and executive-level strategic presentations
  • Establish deep market knowledge in the Immuno-oncology space including competitive threats and opportunity awareness through building strong executive level relationships
  • Participate in strategic planning
  • Develop contacts at current and potential customers for the purpose of collaborating to support R&D needs
  • Participate in structuring, negotiating and closing contracts with major pharma accounts
  • Develop a clear and well-articulated strategic and financial rationale for proposed business deals.
  • Present, discuss and sell Personalis’ strategy and capabilities during professional conferences and other public forums

Position Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience writing proposals and closing multi-million $ deals with prospects and existing clients
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Have a good understanding of the pharma IO/Oncology drug development process including CDx
  • Solid business and financial acumen
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and German
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • The successful candidate will have a vast and active “rolodex” of contacts in key areas of pharma: clinical, translational medicine, companion diagnostics and business development.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 35% of time
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative, fast paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Results oriented focus with highly developed analytical and decision-making skills
  • Physical location - UK or EU preferred

Education and Experience

  • PhD in Life Sciences; or Master's degree in Life Sciences with MBA in Business, Marketing or Finance
  • 5-10 years of biotech or pharma business development, commercial/financial analysis and/or strategy consulting experience required
  • Extensive market and strategic business case development and analysis capabilities
  • Prior experience in NGS based genomics with emphasis on Oncology/Immuno-oncology
