Summary:

The Business Automation Engineer is responsible for feeding agile development methodologies and various technology to enable business process efficiencies. The position serves to bridge technical and business competencies and identify business automation opportunities. Business Automation Engineers are expected to understand business strategy, business processes, and technology capabilities. Additionally, this position is responsible for advocating for and supporting the implementation of any recommended business process changes and efficiencies that are enabled by new technology.

Essential Accountabilities:

Level I

• Develops reports to supplement departmental processes through query building and data extraction.

• Articulates obstacles in business processes that prevent use case development.

• Advocates for all applicable IT and Automation Center of Excellence standards and best practices.

• Collaborates inside business division with process owners and change agents to champion identification of automation opportunities.

• Communicates and works with team members to understand requirements and identify potential solutions.

• Creates and maintains business requirements and functional specifications.

• Acts as a knowledge and communication asset to the RPA development team.

• Supports and administers the day to day running of RPA processes in the production environment for a single business portfolio.

• Serves as first-level support for automated workflows; determines whether automation issues are workflow-related or systems-related; identifies and raises incidents for IT resolution as appropriate

• Maintains level of urgency towards timeliness and quality results.

Level II (in addition to Level I Accountabilities)

• Participates in strategic discussion and decision-making when called upon to do so. (BAE-9)

• Reviews, understands, and interprets the intersection of process and outcome data to assist in optimizing automated business processes

• Participates in process mapping lead by process improvement engineers and systems analysts.

• Provides limited mentorship to other engineers.

• Effectively challenges business areas to think strategically about solutions for their business processes where appropriate.

• Acts as process advocate to outside divisions.

• Supports and administers the day to day running of RPA processes in the production environment for multiple business portfolios.

• Provides input on production deployment readiness.

• Performs capacity forecasts to ensure use cases will be completed within business SLAs.

Level III (in addition to Level II Accountabilities)

• Identifies processes and technical deficiencies and offers solutions to resolve.

• Partners with process improvement engineers and systems analysts in creating process maps where applicable.

• Recommends process redesigns to business process owners and process improvement engineers to enable greater compatibility with Process Automation.

Minimum Qualifications:

All Levels

• Six (6) years of work experience in a relevant field or a Bachelor's degree in Math, IT, Computer Science or relevant field.

• Related work experience (e.g. co-ops and/or internships) preferred.

• Demonstrated experience with programming concepts.

• Demonstrated knowledge of at least one of the following automation technologies:

o Robotics Process Automation

o Intelligent Character Recognition

o Natural Language Processing

o Process Mining and Process Artificial Intelligence

o Test Automation (e.g. Selenium)

• Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.

• Knowledge and familiarity with Agile development methodologies and testing techniques.

• Detailed knowledge of and abilities in data storage techniques, including unstructured data, XML, and relational databases.

• Working knowledge of Data Transformation technology (e.g. Informatica, SSIS, Pentaho) preferred.

Level II (in addition to Level I Qualifications)

• Nine (9) years of cumulative experience of various automation technologies or a Bachelor's degree with three (3) years of experience leveraging various automation technologies such as:

o Robotics Process Automation

o Intelligent Character Recognition

o Natural Language Processing

o Process Mining and Process Artificial Intelligence

o Test Automation (e.g. Selenium)

• Demonstrated experience with designing, coding, and execution of automation scripts.

• Demonstrated experience with business process analysis.

Level III (in addition to Level II Qualifications)

• Twelve (12) or more years of cumulative experience, or a Bachelor's degree with six (6) years of leveraging various automation technologies.

• Certification in a least one automation technology preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to interpret requirements and design robust automation solutions following industry best practices.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and partner with team members and business process owners to understand user stories and identify application and system impact.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work prolonged periods sitting and/or standing at a workstation and working on a computer.

• Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or trainings as needed.
