In Applied Data Technology, we are problem-solvers first and leverage our data science skill sets to find creative ways to wrangle Point72’s internal business data along with external data to optimize decision-making for the firm.

What You’ll Do

Our team works at the intersection of business stakeholders and technology to drive creative and scalable solutions that allow us to answer both today’s business questions and future ones. The ideal candidate will serve as a consultant + data scientist + product manager, who will:

• Translate strategic needs of Point72’s various Investment Services teams into a plan
• Create, research and test ideas on both internally created and external data sets
• Build automated processes of potential solutions during project development
• Work with our colleagues in Technology to create production-level solutions from our research – this includes anything from data cleaning and structuring through specifications for a new product that collects new workflows
• Create and communicate data science-driven insights to internal stakeholders
• Collaborate with other members of the team to share best practices and develop new skills in data science and/or programming
• Learn! No matter how much experience you have, there is much to learn to be effective in this role
• Be passionate about learning new technologies, statistical approaches, and methods of problem solving

What’s Required

We’re looking for both experienced data scientists and those who may be early in their careers and demonstrate potential.  We’re interested in creative problem-solvers with quantitative backgrounds and coding experience who are excited to find new ways to apply data science methods and insights to solve business needs within a team that prioritizes mentorship and skill development. Specifically, you’ll need:
  

• The ability and drive to learn
• An undergraduate degree (or above) and at least one year of work experience in a role that required the use of data. Finance and non-finance work experience welcome.
• Quantitative ability as demonstrated through education and work experience. Quantitative areas of interest include but are not limited to statistics, mathematics, data science, econometrics, bioinformatics, business intelligence, engineering, computational science, and operations research
• Ability to translate your ideas into code using Python or R. Formal education in programming is not required
• Interest in helping those with differing skill sets understand data science
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with others
• Self-motivated, mature, and eager to learn
• Exceptional critical and analytical thinking ability
• Demonstrated passion for creative problem-solving, no matter the discipline
• Commitment to the highest ethical standards
