Cable Installer I

SMX is seeking a Cable Installer to install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repairs cable infrastructure including copper and/or fiber cable for data networks, audio/visual and video- teleconferencing systems, and Electronic Security Systems (ESS).  The Cable Installer may also assist with the integration of digital switching equipment, racks and miscellaneous telephone, radio, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and computer data circuits and related apparatus. 

This is a remote position local to the National Capitol Region. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Install fiber optic cable at various locations of category 5e, category 6, multi-pair backbone copper cable and fiber optic structured cable
• Install or maintain existing fire stopping systems in conduits, trays, wall/ceiling/floor penetrations
• Install various types of communication systems Inside, and outside plant
• Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications
• Responsible for maintaining safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements
• Reports to assigned on-site team lead and directly reports to Integration Team Project Manager
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Ability to travel up to 75% of the time

Required Skills & Experience

• Required clearance:  Secret with the ability to obtain Top Secret
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Experience testing, troubleshooting, installing, and terminating fiber optic & copper cable infrastructure
• Experience with infrastructure installation or network infrastructure support
• Ability to follow specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts, servicing or repairing simple instruments or equipment
• Experience using hand tools and power tools
• Valid US Passport within 90 days of hire

Desired Skills & Experience

• BICSI Installer I or II, fiber or copper, other industry manufacturer certifications, or OSHA10 safety certification
• DoD8570/DoD8140 IAT II certification (ie: Sec+)
• A/V Installations Certification
• Electronic Security System Certification (Lenel, AMAG, or DMP)
• Experience finishing drywall and other light construction tasks necessary to complete installations of electronics equipment
