The main purpose of this role is to lead the Regulatory (BSCR) and Credit rating agencies (S&P, AM Best, Fitch) capital models and support the Head of Capital in their goal of enabling Argo to achieve its strategic objectives. Working in close collaboration with the wider ERM team as well as the finance function, the role would be a key contributor to the capital management strategy for Argo. Analysis and reporting performed on these models are used by senior leaders to drive informed decisions at Group and legal entity levels. Active collaboration, and regular communication with key stakeholders and business partners across finance, actuarial, ceded, risk management and other functions is an important part of this role.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To oversee and manage the annual and quarterly Bermuda Solvency filings (Argo Group and Argo Re BSCR) working closely with the Group CRO and Group Head of Capital to coordinate and manage complex reporting requirements against pre-agreed timelines.
- To contribute in the preparation of Bermuda Monetary Authority – GSSA report regulatory filing, to present a coherent and well-presented Group’s solvency position.
- To oversee and manage the annual and quarterly rating agency models (S&P, AM Best and Fitch) and corresponding data calls.
- Analysis and communication of solvency position, risk tolerances and capital trends to internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and reviewer on components of the BSCR and rating agencies’ models as required.
- Work with Risk, Finance and other functions to run ad-hoc BSCR ‘what-if’ capital implication-based scenarios to meet Board scenario analysis requirements.

- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Economics or Finance from an accredited college or university required.
- Insurance related qualification preferred.
- Actuarial or Accountancy related qualification preferred.
- Experience of completing or contributing to Insurance regulatory capital models (such as Solvency II Standard Formula, or Bermudian equivalent)
- Experience of working with credit rating agencies on their capital models, particularly S&P and A.M. Best.
Exposure to Solvency II regulations and practices
- Exposure to Bermudian insurance industry and BMA regulation
- Exposure to NAIC Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA) regulations and practices
- Understanding of different accounting standards – US GAAP, US STAT, Economic etc.
- Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills and strong organizational skills.
