Chief of Staff, Business Development
Job Description
The Dropbox Business Development team develops partnerships that generate material revenue and/or enable our company strategy. We work with a variety of partners, including strategic partners, hardware and software providers, and distribution partners.
Reporting to the VP of Business Development, as Chief of Staff for the Business Development team, you will play a critical role in unlocking the potential and enabling success of the team to drive growth for Dropbox. Core areas of impact are Operating Cadence, Team Effectiveness, Strategic Direction, and Special Projects/Thought Partner to the VP of Business Development. You will have exposure to a variety of cross functional partners and senior leaders - both internal and external - and gain a deep understanding of Dropbox’s product and growth strategies, as well as become an expert on BD operations.
Responsibilities- Operating Cadence – Keep the team focused, on-strategy, and ensure BD representation at the Company level. This includes running BD’s annual planning cycle, quarterly OKRs, monthly business reviews for our CFO and other cross-functional stakeholders, and providing input to company Business Reviews.
- Team Effectiveness – Enable the team to accomplish their goals efficiently and with high quality. This includes identification of opportunities for improvement, as well as the creation and implementation of processes and templates to ensure consistency. It also includes running effective leadership meetings and team offsite sessions – setting agendas, ensuring quality preparation, and accomplishment of objectives.
- Strategic Direction – Be the expert on Dropbox strategy to understand where BD can accelerate those strategies and ensure interlock between BD and its cross-functional partners.
- Special Projects & Thought Partner to the VP of Business Development – support executive Business Development work and be a sounding board on team strategy and challenges with the VP of Business Development. Act as an internal consultant to the VP, building out high-impact proposals and presentations.
- Partner with cross-functional counterparts to accomplish the above, i.e. FP&A, HR Business Partner, Legal, Comms.
- Top-tier MBA and/or management consulting experience; preference is for someone who has both
- 5+ years experience in operations, business planning, or similar
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with executive audiences – simplicity is one of your superpowers
- Strong organization and project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities at once. Able to drive projects forward, provide structure to ambiguity, and resourceful in finding the right information and stakeholders
- Business minded – critical thinker and problem solver with general understanding of business priorities and ability to understand implications of decisions across the business
- Strong relationship-building skills with demonstrated history of delivering projects cross-functionally and within a team
