The purpose of Microsoft's Communications Group is to tell stories that help people fall in love with Microsoft, the things we make, and the impact we have in the world - using the incredible potential of artificial intelligence. We will do this by innovating in the art and science of communications to position Microsoft as the world's most innovative and trusted company. The group works with a wide range of influencers in these storytelling efforts, as well as across our own channels.

The Communications Group Chief of Staff reports to and supports the Chief Communications Officer, Frank X. Shaw. The Chief of Staff is a member of the Communications Leadership Team (CLT) and is in a high visibility, high impact position in the organization.

Responsibilities:

CLT - Manage leadership team rhythm, weekly meeting agendas and presenters, offsites and org priorities and fiscal year planning.

Executive Communications for Chief Communications Officer (CCO) - Manage internal and external communications for CCO, including business and discipline-related content to the global organization, strategy and other business content as needed for HR or Finance activities, content and slides for all presentations and speeches.

Organization Health & Planning - Build strong relationships with each of the CLT leaders to understand their challenges, pain points, and organizational issues; identify trends, gaps and opportunities across the broader org and develop plans to address; partner closely with Finance to develop fiscal year priorities, manage budget planning and ongoing oversight, manage CCO budget throughout the year; partner with HR to manage people plan; partner with Real Estate & Facilities and Comms Group operations manager on space planning and ongoing management.

Cross-Comms Group Connections - Work closely with team to influence content for "Ask Me Anything" (AMAs) sessions, All Hands meetings and other key forums based on CLT discussions and important areas of interest/investment

Marketing Consumer Business (MCB) engagement - Participate in the MCB Chief of Staff/business manager community to stay informed, represent CCO/Comms Group priorities and plans, and stay plugged in to cross-MCB activities.

Qualifications:

We are seeking a senior leader with deep experience in Communications, Marketing or Business Management. You will understand the communications function and the role it plays at Microsoft, have strong planning skills, are proactive and can identify problems. You are results-oriented with a genuine passion for operational excellence in a fast paced, ever changing environment. You see an opportunity to make a difference and can motivate others and influence stakeholders. You understand how to have maximum impact in role and can help others understand how to do the same. You are an excellent collaborator and partner well across teams including Finance, HR, Communications Leadership Team and other business managers across Marketing and Microsoft as a whole. You possess a growth mindset and are customer obsessed - the customer being the Communications Group. You demonstrate leadership principles and have a strong executive presence.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 10+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 7+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.

Business Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
