Job Description
This is a business-critical role that will enable the right candidate to have a direct and significant impact on an organization directly tied to the Microsoft's mission to deliver intelligent cross-product experiences for our customers.Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Assist CVPs in the day-to-day operational management of OPG in partnership with EAs, finance, HR, CELA, etc..
- Strategic Leadership: Work with leadership team to define and communicate strategic goals for the organization. Represent and communicate shared vision across the team and with partners across the company. Chief of staff needs the ability to speak proficiently about deeply technical subjects as well as organization and team and should understand the nuances in both that can/should impact the way we do business.
- Engineering Alignment and growth: Identify systematic ways to bring diverse teams together to build trust and understanding. Work with CVPs to determine specific investments. This could involve driving one or more of the following outcomes:
- Driving alignment on common strategic frameworks that govern technology investments and roadmaps. Share and integrate into team planning so that we have a common language for describing engineering investments across diverse and complex product spaces.
- Build an experimentation culture that celebrates finding new ways to add customer value and shares technology innovations across teams.
- Create a senior leadership culture that has deep customer empathy by creating opportunities for direct customer and partner engagement.
- Partner with teams across E+D to increase sharing of engineering best practices, technologies and techniques. This could include sharing strategies that help teams become more agile and responsive to customers while maintaining momentum towards longer term goals.
4.Productivity: Help ensure the overall productivity of the CVPs working closely with EAs, including attendance at meetings on their behalf, handling the management of requests of the CVPs, pre-preparation of materials, and follow up on action items.
5. ROB/Planning: Lead and coordinate the organizational and business ROB (including FY Calendar, FY planning activities, LT meetings). Help reduce surprises by providing predictable conversations on key topics needed to build great products that meet business needs.
6. Financial Management: lead financial management for the business (opex, headcount) including budgeting, execution, and compliance.
7. Special Initiatives and Strategic Projects: Lead cross-org planning and special projects on behalf of the CVP, as relevant.
8. Executive Presentations: Lead the preparation and production of all executive presentations, including but not limited to reviews, all hands meetings, internal and external speaking engagements, offsites, and events.
9. Communications and Storytelling: Oversee internal communication function including team emails, management of the team web site, newsletters, blogs, and video production.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Influence both verbally and through written materials and ultimate drive productive conversations across Microsoft with engineers at all levels. Ability to effectively collaborate, influence, and utilize outside resources to deliver impactful results.
- Excellent business and technical judgment. Conceptualize complex ideas quickly and convey those thoughts to others in a clear, effective and motivating manner.
- Conduct insightful, multi-faceted conversations with senior business and technical decision makers about their business challenges. Expert collaborator, with the skills and maturity needed to work effectively across broad teams, and experience collaborating with engineers.
- Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills, including demonstrated success developing executive communications and working across senior leadership to curate content.
- Experience in managing large complex organizational budgets.
- Executive maturity and proven ability to plan, organize, and manage business/operational rhythms such as leadership team meetings, reviews, and events.
- Ability to think holistically and strategically about key operational rhythms, communications, and programs. Leverage understanding of engineering rhythm(s) so that RoB supports the right knowledge sharing and decision processes at the right time.
- Strong project management skills with exceptional organization skills.

- Ability to exercise exceptional discretion with confidential information.
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science)
- 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
- 10+ years of related Chief of Staff or Program Management experience.
- Proven effectiveness driving complex multi-stakeholder planning processes, driving cross-team programs to desired results, and managing risk
- Proven competency in strategic leadership, organizational agility, cross-team collaboration, drive for results, and written and verbal communications
- Experience building software and or hardware products with diverse engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Experience or related experience in any or all of the following: driving communications at scale, establishing culture, working with executives and leadership teams, highly-skilled presentation creation
