Summary:
The Marin Independent Journal is looking for a self-motivating individual to join our Advertising team as an Inside Sales Representative in a vital revenue-producing role. This position is the primary Classified Advertising call center representative, receiving inbound calls which include but are not limited to, obituary notices, employment ads, garage sale ads, etc. This position also provides coverage for the Legal Advertising representative, and requires some outbound prospecting and client care. This role is part of a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where exceptional customer service skills will allow you to shine.

This is a fully remote role but must be located in the San Rafael/Northern Bay Area for client visits.
The hourly wage is $22.60. This position is eligible for incentive compensation (commission) opportunity. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition program, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).

What you will do:
- Answer inbound classified advertising calls and emails to facilitate obituary notices. Work closely with funeral homes and bereaved clients.
- Sell display and digital advertising to current advertisers as well as assigned and prospected potential clients to meet established individual and team sales goals.
- Service advertisers by phone or in person, by providing concepts of newspaper advertising, accurate marketing data, ideas for advertising campaigns and presentations for long-term commitments to newspaper advertising.
- Schedule and handle all paperwork associated with the advertisements on a timely basis with minimal errors, including adjustments, sales reports, and market presentations.
- Review and obtain final advertising copy with clients, adhering to space reservations and meeting established time deadlines.
What you will bring:
- 1+ years of sales and customer service call center experience
- Strong computer skills required including proficiency with Word, Excel
- Ability to quickly learn new programs and strong understanding of internet and mobile advertising
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to work with several different teams
- Detail-oriented individual, with good organizational and time management skills necessary for deadline driven environment.
- Ability to prioritize opportunities and be flexible/versatile as revenue and department needs shift
- Ability to self-motivate to achieve sales goals
- Ability to create and present proactive print and digital campaigns
- Ability to see product opportunities and up sell current clients
