The data stack has evolved very quickly in the past decade and Formal's long-term vision is to become the governance layer for enterprise data helping teams understand their organization's data schema in real-time see where sensitive data is stored and how it's consumed across the organization’s teams and services all while staying compliant with data privacy regulations.

To our customers Formal feels like magic but under the hood it’s a reverse proxy that speaks datastore protocols (such as Postgres S3 Kafka) to inspect every single query and modify query results in real time.

Founded last year we already have paying customers and strong traction.

We have raised from top-tiers VCs including Thrive Capital Y Combinator.

About the role

As Formal expands we're seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer with a solid track record in cloud solutions and infrastructure management. This role is pivotal in supporting our dynamic growth and ensuring the seamless operation of our innovative DataOS platform.

This role is full-time and open to remote candidates. Formal also has an NYC office in the heart of Silicon Alley .

What you will do

• Design and implement effective cloud solutions using AWS Azure or Google Cloud for our clients.
• Initiate and lead projects with significant impact on Formal's success.
• Develop and maintain our monitoring infrastructure.
• Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure to support robust backend operations.
• Design and develop various systems from scratch with a focus on scalability security and compliance.
• Develop deployment strategies and build configuration management systems.

About you

• Minimum of 5+ years DevOps Engineering or related experience with demonstrated understanding of DevOps and Release Management processes artifacts and tools.
• Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
• Hands-on Cloud Engineering Experience.
• Experience in building and designing cloud components.
• Proficiency in automating cloud infrastructure management primarily with tools like Terraform Shell scripting AWS Lambda and Event Bridge.

Bonus points

• Knowledge or experience with Kubernetes clusters and Docker containers are a big plus.
• Analytical mindset with good communication skills.
