Job Description

Fictiv Exists to Enable Hardware Innovators to Build Better Products, Faster

Fictiv, coined the “AWS of manufacturing,” is a leading technology company transforming the $350 billion manufacturing industry. Our cutting-edge cloud platform uses AI and machine learning algorithms to help companies build hardware at the speed of software. Come join our growing team!

If you love triangles, software development, CAD/CAM, and the intersection of mechanical engineering with computer science, this may be the perfect role for you.

What’s in it for you?

Small Team, Big Impact

Our team is small and agile; as a core member, we will look to you for opinions and contributions that shape our engineering direction, product development practices, team culture, and the Fictiv organization.

Inspiring Customers

Our customers work on products that push the technological boundaries. You’ll help build the next level of complex, professional web-based 3D graphical applications.  Help us shape the future of manufacturing by developing systems for analyzing (quoting, annotating, and correcting) CAD models for parts that will immediately become parts of cars, medical devices, toys, aerospace systems, and more.

Impact in this Role

Computational geometry engineers allow us to scale our operations and logistics past human limits.  We do this through geometric analysis, feature detection, and design rule checks to automate and provide insight into manufacturing decisions.  We share this data internally and with our manufacturing partners to improve the capabilities of our manufacturing network.

Work With Real-World Models for Real Applications

At Fictiv, we work collaboratively to deliver new features to our platform. You will work in small cross-functional teams to ship code early and often to ensure a rapid feedback loop between us and our customers. You and your team have autonomy to try out new development methodologies and technologies to meet team goals.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Analyze production data to extract salient features for automation
  • Develop algorithms for analysis of 3D models and 2D drawings
  • Develop heuristics for estimating pricing and machinability of a variety of manufacturing processes
  • Expand analysis capabilities of CAD models.  as we add new, more complex manufacturing processes to our service offerings.
  • Increase capacity to deliver prototype- to production-scale demand through analyzing datasets, automating DFM feedback, and visualizing 3D models
  • Lead projects by guiding the team through clarifying requirements, brainstorming solutions, and making tough tradeoffs between scope and schedule
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Computational Geometry, e.g.:

o    Mechanical Engineering background with focus in computational geometry

  • Graduate Student (M.S. or PhD)

o    Computational Geometry and/or Computer Graphics focus

  • Past internship, work experience, or project team experience
  • C/C++ and/or C# programming experience
  • Strong interest in applying modern technology to improving manufacturing processes.
We will consider the following background as well:
  •  B.S., (M.S./PhD preferred)

  •  2+ years related to (some of the following)
    •  Computational geometry
    •  Computer graphics
    •  Artificial Intelligence and / or Machine Learning
    •  Coding and algorithm development (C/C++ and/or C#)
    •  Coding and algorithm development (work or hobby) for CNC and/or 3DP applications
A plus to the above skills is bringing:
  • Graphics background in video game or simulation, and /or Three.js, OpenGL, WebGL, DirectX, Vulcan

Perks and benefits
  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401K plan
  • Monthly Virtual Work stipend for things like food, internet, travel, pet care, health and wellness
  • Annual Education stipend
  • Parental leave programs
  • Paid volunteer days
  • Onboarding setup, including: standing desk, laptop, monitor, and chair, and a stipend for additional items such as headphones, blue light glasses, or any other ergonomic supplies you may want or need
