Job Description

WHERE CULTURE CALLS HOME

Our mission is simple: dramatically transform the face of media ownership and investment by identifying, creating and scaling the largest ecosystem of Black-owned media brands and diverse creators.  We are doing this by providing financial, strategic, and infrastructural support needed to build businesses capable of delivering engaged audiences at scale.

Group Black drives scalable Black-media ownership at pace and focuses on building Black-owned media businesses that embrace diversity in their organizations and audiences. Most importantly, Group Black delivers great content and experiences, as well as new, high-performing ways for advertisers to connect with consumers.

We know that your voice creates the path to our success. We are a place where employees can be authentic, creative, and energized by the people and work they touch each day.

The Role

Working with our General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer, you will help drive efficiencies in our overall contracting strategy with clients, partners, and suppliers. We are looking for a contracts manager who has strong attention to detail and experience in media advertising, such as digital media, television, and events.  You‘ll work closely with key partners across Group Black to drive revenue. You will lead our contracts management work by building effective processes, designing and delivering training, developing cross-functional working relationships, and of course, negotiating commercial contracts.

You will have exposure and interaction with departments across the company and our external suppliers, so strong social and communication skills are required. You will be a trusted partner and advisor to Sourcing colleagues and internal customers, providing practical and timely contractual guidance, identification of contractual risks and informed consent, and excellence in drafting contract documents.

You are flexible, resourceful, and solution-oriented. You are excited to help a growing company define its legal identity and build capacity through new processes. You're both comfortable saying you don't have the answer and confident that you can then find it.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Own contract lifecycle management within the contract management tool (Lexion) to prioritize requests, negotiate agreements, gain approvals, and secure signatures on agreements with tight timelines

  • Structure, draft, and help negotiate media advertising contracts, supplier contracts, and other contracts

  • Responsible for contract close-out and helping to oversee extensions, renewals, and contractual changes

  • Build capacity in Group Black contract processes by identifying opportunities to improve knowledge transfer and business processes and oversee these projects

  • Work cross-functionally to develop and deliver commercial contracts training across the business

  • Provide contract-related issue resolution, both internally and externally

What you can expect:

  • A critical project that you will own for 2023 will be to finalize our contract templates and general negotiation guidelines

  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a fast-growing start-up company

  • Fun company events and celebrations with a focus on inclusion and collaboration across all levels of the organization

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • 3-7 years of increasing responsibilities and experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating media advertising and other commercial contracts, with an emphasis on digital media and awareness of data privacy issues

  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to comprehend common legal and financial risks in contractual language and their business impacts

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize while supporting all levels of the company in a dynamic environment with shifting target dates

  • Extraordinary communication and customer service qualification

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of common programs such as Microsoft Office and G Suite

  • Capable of professionally handling confidential information

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and objectives of the organization

At Group Black, we believe in leveraging our hiring process as a way to support transparency. The annual base salary band for this opportunity is $75,000.00-$100,000.00. Our job offer compensation philosophy, which impacts actual compensation, is based on a number of important factors, including, but not limited to, internal and market equity, financial budgets, and the individual’s skills, qualifications, experience, and education. Group Black offers employees a comprehensive, flexible, and competitive benefits program. We offer medical, vision, and dental coverage, health savings accounts, paid time off to relax and recharge and attend to personal matters, Company paid holidays, family and personal sick and safe time, and a 401(k) plan.
