Job Description
The Data Architect will architect and design large scale, high volume, transaction processing and analytical data systems & solutions. This position will lead or participates in defining Data Architecture Standards & Guidelines and the selection of Data Maintenance Tools for use across the organization. Responsibilities include providing prototypes, data profiling, data architecture & design consultation and mentoring in all phases of the project lifecycle. The Data Architect provides designs for Business Intelligence (BI), Data Warehouse (DW), Operational Data Store (ODS), Big Data / Data Vault, and decision support Data Marts/Applications. These solutions and their related components are aligned with Enterprise Information & Data Strategy and Enterprise Architecture standards. The Data Architect works collaboratively across the organization to assure that solutions meet the requirements.
Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Level I
• Participates in data architecture & design that drives development of large scale, high volume, transaction processing and analytical data systems & solutions.
• Identifies appropriate sources of data that meet the business requirements and confirms data is of appropriate quality, completeness, etc. Typically accomplished via data profiling.
• Collaboratively participates in the definition of the Data Architecture Standards & Guidelines by creating, communicating, and promoting standards, methods, and practice across the organization. Participates in architectural review boards and advisory groups.
• Identifies and designs required changes to data models/data bases within the analytic environment, taking into account the analytic and operational business needs, and the ability to develop and support queries against the data database.
• Profiles data, identifying/validating table keys and relationships. Validates that Nullability rules can be enforced and that table data types are correct.
• Performs the job functions of the data modeler - identifies and organizes the required data logically and physically and generates optimal build ready DDL.
• Participates, as appropriate, in ETL Design reviews, testing approach / test case reviews.
• Assists in the development of overall project plans and timelines and reviews Data Architect deliverables with Data Architecture team and project team.
• Populates and maintains technical metadata repositories and related documentation.
• Produces detailed design documents from high-level requirements and functional specifications.
• Fosters an environment of continuous improvement, constantly exploring ways to increase efficiencies and productivity, reducing waste, and reducing costs.

Level II - in addition to Level I responsibilities:
• Leads data architecture & design that drives development of large scale, high volume, transaction processing and analytical data systems & solutions.
• Leads efforts to define Data Architecture Standards & Guidelines by creating, communicating and promoting standards, methods and practice across the organization. Participates in architectural review boards and advisory groups.
• Develops and maintains current, personal knowledge and skills on industry and professional trends and activities in Information Management, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence. Shares learning and coaching experience through knowledge transfers.
• Collaboratively participates in the selection and assessment of data management tools, and the development of standards, usage guidelines and procedures for those tools
• Provides architecture & design, consultation and mentoring on Data solutions in all phases of planning, development, implementation, and maintenance.
• Works with Solution Architects, Developers and DBAs to identify root cause of database performance issues and remediation of identified issues.
Level III - in addition to Level I/II responsibilities:
• Leads in the selection/assessment of data management tools, the development of standards, usage guidelines and procedures for those tools.
• Leads in prototype development of new Data methodologies, Data solutions and Data technology.
• Leads efforts to define Data Architecture Standards & Guidelines by creating, communicating, and promoting standards, methods, and practice across the organization. Participates in architectural review boards and advisory groups.
Collaborates across the enterprise to execute Data Architecture strategy.
• Partners with A&D Program Managers and EPMO Leads to prioritize and implement data management strategy.
• Partners with the A&D & IT Data Strategy teams to yearly refine the overall data strategy including data asset development, Master Data Management, and Metadata Strategy.
• Collaborates across the enterprise to communicate new data asset development needs.
• Work with management and other Architects to set vision/direction related to data architecture and data movement.
Minimum Qualifications:

Level I:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field. In lieu of a degree, six (6) cumulative years of experience required.
• Prior professional, co-op or internship experience with Entity-Relationship and advanced Dimensional modeling and able to represent these relational models in an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), or relevant college coursework.
• Demonstrated knowledge in database internals, data structures, principles, and tuning strategies, or relevant college coursework required.
• Experience in SQL programming.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to approach technical challenges with determination and optimism.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new concepts and to come up with original solutions.
• Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively to management and peers, both written and verbal.
• Master's Degree preferred.
Level II - in addition to Level I Qualifications:
• Experience with Data Modeling tool, ERwin Data Modeler preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in database internals, data structures, principles and turning strategies.
• Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) a plus.
• Experience with XML, JSON and HL7 a plus.
• Experience with Master Data Management a plus.
• Knowledge of healthcare payer industry a plus.
• Capable of successfully delivering on multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Demonstrated competence in team leadership/technical leadership, facilitation, and project leadership tasks.
• Experience with big data techniques and methodologies like Data Vault 2.0 a plus.
• Ability to analyze problems, sort through complex issues, provide a comparative analysis of alternatives and solution recommendations.
Level III - in addition to Level I/II Qualifications:
• Current on emerging technologies related to Data Architecture.
• Ability to effectively interact with senior level management.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple levels of management and Architects from across the enterprise, deriving the vision for Data Architecture in:
• Creation of Enterprise Data Models
• Metadata management/Data Governance tools, processes, scope
• Master Data Management identification and implementation
• Processes and procedures used for Agile Data Architecture
• Mentor others wanting to develop Data Architecture skills.
• Experience with DevOps tool, Azure DevOps preferred.
• Experience in Cloud Computing is a plus.
• Experience in Project Manager a plus.
• Experience as a team lead a plus.
• Responsible for working with the data platform architects and engineers in designing our data Platform and the associated tools required for this platform.
• Responsible for designing solutions / capabilities that require a data component, i.e. data capabilities required for our digital platform.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to complete work in a traditional office environment under fluorescent lighting.
• Must be able to function while sitting at a desk viewing a computer and using a keyboard and mouse for 3 or more hours at a time.
• Must be able to travel across the enterprise.
• Ability to work in a home office for continuous periods of time for business continuity.
