WHAT WILL YOU BE WORKING ON?  

At Genius Sports we are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our growing advertising data services teams. These teams play a major role in developing and implementing data pipelines and analytics platforms. The data pipelines and processes that this team builds enable our internal teams to optimize campaigns in real time while serving our clients data needs across our advertising product suites. These teams have the skill set and autonomy to solve business problems the way they see fit.  

THE ROLE  

We are looking for a strong backend data engineer at a Mid or Senior level who are hungry to learn continuously and take ownership of the tools and products that they work on in accordance with best practices for Agile Software Development/DevOps. We believe that a good engineer can move from one language to another and can learn new skills effortlessly if they are motivated by what they do. We will lean on your technical expertise and your pragmatic approach to problem solving; working in a team that prioritizes the principles of Agile delivery and continuous improvement. You will have a Data-driven, evidence-based mentality, comfortable with the principles of continuous experimentation and validation.  

WHAT SKILLS DO YOU HAVE?  

• Solid knowledge of the JVM and its ecosystem 
• At least one compiled language (Java, Scala, Kotlin) 

• At least one modern build tool (Maven, Gradle, sbt) 
• At least one testing framework (JUnit, scalatest, specs, kotest, etc.) 
• At least one application framework (Spring Boot, JEE, Micronaut, Quarkus, etc.) or at least one big data framework (Spark, Flink, Hadoop, etc.) 
• Expertise in high performance programming and optimal use of data structures and algorithms   
• Experience with domain modelling and relational data structures with a strong understanding of SQL 

• At least one RDBMS (Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, etc.); or 
• At least one distributed columnar data store (Spark, Hive, Redshift, Presto, Snowflake) 
• You will have broad software architecture skills and detailed knowledge of architectural patterns and applying them to highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and observable systems 

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE SKILLS  

• Familiarity with formal methods for validating concurrent systems   
• Knowledge of AWS and / cloud native architectures   
• Familiarity with Kubernetes / Docker

The base salary range for this role is up to $140,000 USD. There are a number of factors which affect what the specific pay offer would be for this role, including location, seniority, and relevant educational and working experience. This is base salary only – all full-time roles will also be eligible to take part in Second Spectrum benefits and equity plan, and some roles may be eligible to take part in a bonus plan.
