The Opportunity

This position works out of our Downtown Chicago- WeWork location in the Digital Technology Services organization.

As the Data Engineer, you'll have the chance to build code, design solution and solutions for Big Data platforms, collaborating with technical data engineers and business users. You'll develop solutions, and support IT defects.

What You'll Work On

  • Global Data Lakes, Data warehouses and analytics projects providing hands on experience leading large-scale solutions.
  • Technical and hand-on with agility to meet fluid and dynamic business needs
  • Expertise - Collaborate with Abbott employees and partners to develop big data platform solutions using Data bricks, cloud services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Redshift, Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse.
  • Solutions - Understanding customer requirements, creating solution proposals and creating data service offerings. This includes participating in on-site visits.
  • Delivery - Engagements proving the use of AWS services to support new distributed computing solutions that often span private cloud and public cloud services. Engagements will include development of solutions specific to use cases, upkeep of current big data architecture, conducting Proof of Concepts, support migration of existing applications and development of new applications using AWS cloud services.
  • Analyze latest Big Data Analytic technologies and their innovative applications in both business intelligence analysis and new service offerings, bring these insights and best practices to implement complex big data solutions
  • Track record of implementing Spark, Databricks in a variety of distributed computing, enterprise environments.
  • Track record of implementing AWS services in a variety of distributed computing, enterprise environments.
  • Deep understanding of database and analytical technologies in the industry including MPP databases, Data Warehouse design, BI reporting and Dashboard development.
  • Deliver and implement designs, data modeling, and implementations of Big Data platform and analytic applications
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical business and executive leaders
  • Work closely with SMEs, functional experts in Commercial, R&D, finance, etc. for building data pipeline from structure and unstructured data sources

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience; Computer Science or Math background preferred
  • 5+ years' experience of IT platform implementation in a highly technical and analytical role
  • Experience in data lake and data analytics solution components from AWS and Microsoft Azure
  • Current hands-on implementation experience required; individual contributors only need apply
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to deliver effectively
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, actionable manner
  • Hands-on experience in Big Data Components/Frameworks, AWS, Azure solution components required.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Python, Apache Spark, Kafka, Databricks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Healthcare industry
  • Understanding of Regulatory requirements
  • Customer facing skills to represent Abbott Big Data team and drive discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, product management and risk mitigation
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment
  • Ability to travel to various Abbott locations (sometimes, internationally) when needed.
