Microsoft's Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Capacity, Supply Chain & Provisioning (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. This work will include applying advanced Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning techniques, large scale optimization to provide insights and recommendations that operate at the intersection of Cloud, Supply chain and Sustainability and guide Microsoft in its ambition and help millions of customers and partners of Microsoft to achieve their sustainability goals.

As part of the Cloud Supply Chain Sustainability engineering team in Azure, we are at the heart of Microsoft's cloud strategy. Our mission is to deliver a sustainable platform for our customers & partners by combining science-based approaches to climate change with an engineering culture of delivering platforms and services on Azure using the latest technologies in machine learning and the Internet of Things.

We are looking for a Data Scientist II , who can demonstrate the following traits:
  • A team player who is self-starter, customer obsessed, highly inquisitive and biased towards action.
  • Comfortable with cold start problems, thrive in ambiguity with an eye for detail.
  • Delivers results through innovation and persistence.
  • Experience in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning technology, foundational math and statistics knowledge and has the broader view of the latest research and development in academia and industry.
  • Demonstrates a product mindset and looks to deliver re-usable components that can be deployed as-is or into existing pipelines.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results).
    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) or consulting experience
    • OR Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with at least one, or more, Operations Research tools and techniques (e.g. probability theory, Monte Carlo methods, stochastic, queuing, transportation, network models, dynamic and non-linear programming).
  • Experience with SQL.
Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of cloud-computing environments - Azure preferred.
Data Science IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.

  • Collaborate with teams to ensure existing optimization pipelines and process continue to deliver business value.
  • Build the infrastructure & code to process structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sources.
