What You'll Get to Do:

• The database developer will work in a software development team rebuilding a legacy application built in a Microsoft environment with SQL Server database. The Database Developer will need to work with the backend API development team, the front-end development team, the operations team and the tech writer to understand the data flow from various sources through the system, learn to troubleshoot input data problems, network problems, file delivery problems, and general inefficiencies. The Database Developer will work with the team towards the goal of simplifying the database objects following contemporary best practices, as the API team transforms data digestion into a solution requiring a smaller set of database objects and fewer database operations. Will review and understand and rewrite when necessary the databases, tables, triggers, stored procedures used in data input, storage, errors and make recommendations to the team as to how and when to migrate out of the legacy objects and processes moving forward, brainstorming simpler, more elegant solutions to data storage, data flow, and error handling. Will create and modify database objects and release objects to the development, staging, and production environments.
• Will need to use a git-based code repository and follow best practices including pull requests and code review. The team follows agile methodology. Will logon to remote servers, navigate those environments, and execute programs from a Unix and Windows PowerShell prompt.
• Must be proficient in writing SQL in an SQL Server or Oracle environment.
• Experience working in a web development team is desirable.
• Experience working with a team of developers with codebase in C++ or C# is desirable but not required.
• The project is within the Defense Health portfolio.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

• Able to work with highly technical IT personnel, understand technical tasking, and explain technical activities to non-technical individuals
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Develop and maintain software requirements as it relates to user requirements and existing software defects
• Write SQL commands to design/create/release database objects, including databases, tables, triggers, stored procedures
• Use database editor such as SSMS
• Familiarity with .NET environment and/or UNIX environment
• Develop database objects in SQL Server environment.
• Use git-based code repository
• System Test and Evaluation, planning execution and management.
• Demonstrated writing/editing skills
• Ability to work under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Security+ Certification
• Active Secret Clearance

Education and Experience:

• Education: BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Network Security, Information Systems or Computer Science
• Experience: Six (6) years of experience in Engineering, Systems Analysis, Medical Systems, Information Assurance, Web Development, or Engineering Management to include: Systems Analysis, Systems Architecture, System/Equipment Support, Test and Evaluation, and Logistics support of C4ISR requirements. Three (3) years of technical experience in support of information assurance/network protection or virtualization projects. Note: Experience may be concurrent.

• Familiarity with Cloud hosting
• Familiarity with Amazon Web hosting services
• Familiarity with front end frameworks desirable but not required
• Familiarity with API development desirable but not required
• Familiarity with Agile Development
