Design Systems Designer (Contractor)

The MyFitnessPal Design Team cares deeply about creating an experience-first culture. Our goals are instrumental in shaping the future of health and fitness through the discovery and execution of elegant digital experiences for mobile and web products. We collaborate and work closely with other designers, copywriters, product managers, developers, marketers and project managers to envision, design and prototype new growth products, features and initiatives. We are passionate about identifying and connecting with our target users, and becoming their advocate to influence our products to meet their needs.

We’re looking for a seasoned product designer to work on MyFitnessPal’s Design System. The initial focus will be on UI designs, and improvements that will become the foundation of our existing and expanding product experience. Your work will help to establish what it means to use the MFP Design System while at the same time driving education within the org so that we can deliver high quality designs quickly. We are looking for someone who has spent a significant amount of time working on a design system from both a process and execution perspective.

You’ll partner with our product designers and other product leaders to identify opportunity areas, establish and refine processes and work cross-functionally and collaboratively with design and product to scale impact.

• Help to define the MyFitnessPal Design System from the perspective of design
• Work with Product Designers, Software Engineers, and Design Technologists to develop robust components
• Identify areas of improvement within the Design System
• Define and educate on the Design System change process
• Be an ambassador for the Design System
• Leads individual contributions and small team workstreams. May direct the work of a few junior team members
• Provide pixel-perfect static and interactive mockups
• Socialize and present design solutions and rationale to the team and key stakeholders
• May give skill based training sessions. Leverages a people-focused design thinking mentality

• 5+ years of experience in digital product design
• 2+ years experience working on design systems at a product-focused company
• 2+ years working with Figma's component libraries
• In-depth understanding of design systems, including component-based design, modular design principles, and design tokens
• Ability to create and maintain a comprehensive design system documentation and guidelines that facilitate consistent design implementation across teams
• Understands digital media, design trends, and relevant tools. Has established skills in issue tracking, agile practices, and software/solution delivery with attention and consideration of file etiquette in a shared environment. Understands the software development lifecycle. Independently writes user stories and issues, participates in agile practices, and contributes to the software delivery workflow
• Experience in both app-based mobile design (iOS and Android) and web
• Experience with Figma, Adobe CS, JIRA, Confluence, as well as prototyping, and expert at adapting to a variety of software
• Confident presentation and storytelling skills
• Excellence working within diverse, dynamic, cross-functional teams
