A few bytes about us:
The Audience Team decorates events that are used for reporting and analytics. The PE team (us) that supports the Audience Team manages one of the largest realtime and batch pipelines within Yahoo - typical peak traffic is at 1000K requests per second (that's right, it's 1 million rps). We manage multiple applications like Kafka, Druid, Hadoop pipelines, Storm topologies and our data weaves through each of those systems to its final destination for analytics and reporting. The breadth of the applications makes it an exciting, and challenging, place to be! Recently, our team has won accolades for optimizing resource utilization through use of FB Prophet machine learning algorithm.
A few bytes about you:
You have a passion for coding and problem solving with the goal of solving problems facing production operations. These include, but are not limited to, auto remediation building and maintaining robust applications in the cloud (GCP and/or AWS).
Responsibilities:

• Using open source technologies (like Temporal.io), expand on our alert handling application
• Build FrontEnd system for the application
• Develop recipes to be used to automating the remediation process
• Working various systems including AWS , GCP, Hadoop/Oozie to fetch EMR job statuses for monitoring
• Interact with your mentor to understand project needs and deduce solutions

Requirements:

• The ideal candidate will be focussed on a mix of software engineering knowledge
• Currently pursuing a PhD, MS or BS in Computer Science, Math
• Should possess Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Self starter, Self-motivated and good sense of ownership - comfortable working in a fast paced environment with limited direction
• Knowledge of at least one of Python, Golang, scripting languages
• Interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate technical content to general audiences.

Projects:

• Utilize historical job metrics to optimize execution of jobs running in the cloud (utilizing Prophet M/L for cyclical time series data)
• Build on top of existing application (YahooACT - golang/python) to build autohealing framework
• Explore running applications (Druid, Kafka or Looker) in cloud, either using kubernetes or some native services
