The CELA Environmental Sustainability (ES) team coordinates overall science-based, measurable, and scalable sustainability investments and outcomes across the company - engaging with business groups on the environmental impacts of business operations and positive environmental outcomes resulting from technology and policy development.
On Microsoft's Carbon Strategy and Market Development team, this position will lead a team of change agents who are developing and coordinating strategies for corporate decarbonization, carbon accounting, and market development across Microsoft's primary areas of emissions (electricity, materials, and fuels). This position requires extensive cross-company leadership, strong business acumen, a deep understanding of decarbonization and carbon removal markets, excellent communication skills, the ability to develop and apply compelling data-driven insights to cross-industry initiatives, and personal commitment to meaningful climate action. This role will directly contribute to Microsoft's carbon negative commitment and will involve collaboration with Microsoft's industry-leading carbon removal program and carbon accounting initiatives such as the
Carbon Call .Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of subject matter experts in decarbonization and carbon accounting to inform science-based goals and targets for Microsoft's operational carbon footprint
  • Partner with other central teams to drive internal stakeholder accountability for carbon reduction targets
  • Lead strategy, as well as manage day-to-day budget and execution, of Microsoft's approach to carbon reduction market development (e.g., Scope 3 renewable electricity credits, low-carbon materials, sustainable aviation fuel)
  • Collaborate with Microsoft's Climate Innovation Fund to ensure that investments are aligned closely with corporate sustainability needs
  • Co-lead strategy for future direction of internal carbon fee and internal carbon accounting methodologies and standards
  • Advise executives on decision-making and communications regarding progress and future vision for carbon reduction
  • Develop thought leadership on carbon reduction, including informing media strategy, formal reporting, and policy advocacy
  • Integrate environmental justice objectives across all program initiatives
  • Enhance a team culture of authenticity, positivity, collaboration, learning, and results
QualificationsRequired/Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in sustainability, climate, or energy industry
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 12+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Doctorate in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people management experience.
  • Excellent business acumen and entrepreneurial, self-directed spirit
  • Growth mindset with problem solving skills, including keen data insights
  • Track record of driving results through deep and resourceful collaboration
  • Advanced degree in business/MBA, economics, finance, sustainability, environmental science, or equivalent experience

Sourcing Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
Microsoft has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets (see below). The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role (except as noted below); the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role. Benefits/perks listed here may vary depending on the nature of employment with Microsoft and the country work location. U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others. U.S.-based employees also receive, per calendar year, up to 10 scheduled paid holidays, and up to 80 hours Holistic Health Time Off. Additionally, hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid vacation time, and salaried/exempt employees have Discretionary Time Off (DTO).
