Job Description

Team: Legal

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Compliance based in United States.

This role sits at the intersection of customs compliance, operational leadership, and customer-facing advisory work within a fast-evolving trade technology environment. It is responsible for guiding a distributed team that supports customs broker partners and enterprise users across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring smooth, compliant, and data-driven import/export operations. You will act as a senior subject matter expert in customs regulations, serving as an escalation point for internal teams across operations, product, finance, and customer success. The position combines strategic oversight with hands-on involvement in compliance workflows such as entry review, exception management, and post-entry corrections. In parallel, you will lead a remote team responsible for broker partner success and post-entry analysis, ensuring continuity across time zones and operational cycles. This is a highly visible leadership role where regulatory expertise, operational discipline, and stakeholder management converge.

Accountabilities:

  • Serve as a senior customs compliance authority and escalation point for internal stakeholders across Operations, Sales, Finance, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success.
  • Lead and manage a remote team of Broker Partner Success (BPS) specialists and Post-Entry Analysts, ensuring coverage across U.S. and Canadian time zones, including weekends and holidays.
  • Oversee pre- and post-entry customs activities, including clearance coordination, exception management, documentation accuracy, and escalation resolution.
  • Manage tracking and resolution of PSCs, protests, corrections, and adjustments across U.S. and Canadian customs processes.
  • Conduct regular engagement meetings with broker partners and ABI users to ensure alignment, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide expert guidance on trade compliance topics including tariff changes, duty programs, ACE reporting, reconciliation, and regulatory updates.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives involving data quality, process improvement, and analytics-driven customs operations.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements while enabling efficient, technology-enabled customs workflows.
  • Requirements:

    • 10+ years of experience in customs brokerage, trade compliance, account management, or related international trade operations.
    • Valid U.S. Customs Broker License (CBP) or equivalent certification such as CCS (NCBFAA).
    • Strong knowledge of customs systems such as ACE and experience using data to drive operational and compliance decisions.
    • Proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear guidance for diverse internal and external stakeholders.
    • Experience managing or supervising customs brokerage operations or broker networks in a high-volume environment.
    • Strong leadership skills with experience managing remote or distributed teams across multiple time zones.
    • Familiarity with trade programs such as FTAs, duty drawback, AD/CVD, CTPAT, reconciliation, and tariff classifications preferred.
    • Experience interacting with government agencies such as CBP, CBSA, or other regulatory bodies.
    • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills in fast-paced environments.
    • Comfortable working in a technology-driven, rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive base salary ranging from $135,000 to $170,000 annually, based on experience and location.
      • Equity participation in a high-growth technology organization.
      • Remote-first work environment with flexibility across the United States.
      • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
      • Professional development support, including continuing education opportunities.
      • Opportunity to work at the intersection of trade compliance, AI, and logistics innovation.
      • High-impact leadership role with visibility across multiple business functions.
