Position Summary

Avantax is seeking a Director, Enterprise Relationships & Business Consulting that will be responsible for functioning as both the primary strategic consultant for elite firms affiliated with Avantax Wealth Management and a partner of value to increase the firm's competitiveness, align growth and achieve success. This role will mobilize resources, solutions, and teams around key stakeholders of these large firm relationships (internally and externally) by acting as an "Ambassador" to effectively ensure business goals, strategies for growth, and key performance metrics for success are clearly defined, accurately measured, and supported relative to the firm's defined goals. Armed with a deep focus on financial and tax professional clients' businesses, the ideal candidate will successfully support Avantax's expansion and succession planning initiatives, retain advisor relationships, amplify the Avantax vision, and provide value-add for recruiting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

External Business Partner Engagement (Financial Professional-Facing):

  • Estimated travel commitment: 40-50% (including but not limited to National Conferences and Sales reward trips).
  • Maintain and strengthen firm and individual Financial Professional relationships.
  • Design and deliver educational, strategic, and customized presentations to Financial Professionals, key firm stakeholders, and prospects.
  • Assess and consult on our partner's short, medium- and long-term goals; document areas to improve, develop or adapt; score and improve the level of engagement; leverage Avantax solutions; and customize an effective communications strategy.
  • Use our knowledge of Avantax Wealth Management to identify and expand a firm's lines of business and pursue new opportunities for a greater share of wallet and new client acquisition initiatives.
  • Design, develop and implement annual top-tier firm business plans (and supporting materials where required) that establish expectations and engagement of Financial Professional relationships with Avantax stakeholders (ex: document business growth goals and clearly define succession plans).

Internal Business Partner Engagement (Avantax business unit-Facing):

  • Act as a "voice of the advisor" and advocate on their behalf when working with internal team members at Avantax.
  • Be accountable and support common firm goals.
  • Develop, scale, and leverage 'best practices' utilized by top-tier firms.
  • Collect, prioritize, and catalog current and future needs of top firms to guide Avantax's business strategy.
  • Collaborate with other internal stakeholders to support the firm's vision.

Metrics for Success:

FP Sentiment & Retention (10%):

  • Net Promoter Score (NPS)
  • Voice of the Advisor (VOTA) survey

Firm Relationship Retention (40%):

  • Firm retention/attrition

FP Engagement (20%):

The number of initiated annual Business Plans (with top-tier firms serviced by this role to include):

  • Establish engagement expectations of FP relationships with AWM stakeholders.
  • Document individual firm business growth goals.
  • Defined and documented business succession plans.
  • Formulate short/mid/long term plans for success.
  • Establish and utilize effective Client Relationship Management (CRM) software/tools.
  • Firm office visits on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis.

Firm Growth (20%):

  • AUM/revenue increase.
  • Net New Assets.

Targeted Internal Firm Initiative Support (10%):

  • Discretionary on an annual basis.

Education & Experience

  • 10+ years in a Wealth Management, Relationship Management, Sales, or Territory leadership role (Avantax Wealth Management or similar experience preferred).
  • FINRA 7, 63, 66 (or 63/65) licenses required.
  • MBA, CFA, CFP, CIMA, CPWA, or other industry designations preferred.
  • BS/BA/BBA in business, finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office; specifically, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Creativity, innovative thinking, and motivation.
  • Highly energetic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work in the field and also be an integral team member on large-scale, complex projects and relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize solutions, drive results, and influence senior leaders in a cross-functional, diverse environment while using industry insights to help firms grow with purpose and intent.
