About you

About This Role
Udemy is seeking a Director, Financial Planning & Analysis to be a key member of the FP&A leadership team and serve as a critical FP&A partner to the PDE (Product, Design, & Engineering) and G&A organizations. You will bring best practices and thoughtful approaches to modeling the business and build budgets and forecasts which align with strategic objectives and operational initiatives. You will consolidate business results, monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, and partner with the business to adjust as necessary. You will also be responsible for delivering value-added analyses that lead to insightful decision-making and prioritization by the PDE and G&A teams. This highly visible role works cross-functionally to advise the business, influence strategies, and drive ad hoc special projects as needed.
What you'll be doing:
  • Partner with PDE leadership to understand and influence business strategies, develop models to project potential impact of new initiatives, interpret experiment results, help prioritize future roadmaps, and support strategic decision-making
  • Continuously evaluate performance and impact of PDE initiatives to refine future decision-making and to share insights with relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the Consumer, Enterprise, and Corporate FP&A teams to develop a holistic ROI view of PDE investments
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual FP&A processes, including planning cycles, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and management, and reporting
  • Partner with PDE, G&A, and cross-functional teams to efficiently track and manage expenses and headcount, including the impact of capitalization policies
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reviews for executive leadership providing value-added insights into results, identifying trends, and pinpointing areas of potential risks and opportunities
  • Produce long- and short-term financial plans, ensuring strong linkage between both to support critical expansion and operational strategies
  • Improve business planning processes and systems to improve efficiency, enhance management visibility, and enable timely decision-making. Drive standardization & simplification throughout, including the use of automated solutions
  • Lead strategic projects and support senior leadership on ad hoc research and analysis
  • Structure, build, and maintain complex financial and decision-making models to develop meaningful insights and actionable recommendations

What you'll have:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Finance or related field. MBA preferred
  • 8-10 years of progressive, relevant experience in FP&A within a top technology company. Software and SaaS experience preferred
  • Experience working in a high-growth environment
  • Strong systems aptitude and proficiency in Excel, SQL, financial planning software, and BI tools
  • Experience working with large data sets
  • Experience with performance management, scorecards, and dashboarding
  • Thoughtful financial modeling ability from top-of-funnel/go-to-market activities to revenue, gross profit, and net income
  • A general understanding of consumer product funnels, consumer subscription models, enterprise SaaS models, lifetime value, customer acquisition cost, and how customer behavior translates into business impact
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and business unit allocations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with superior attention to detail and effectively direct the efforts of FP&A managers and analysts
  • Ability to anticipate business needs and be a thought leader
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with company executives and other senior leaders
  • Ability to deliver value via strategic finance support and influence key decision makers
  • Superb communication skills and strong executive presence
  • Excellent problem-solving diagnosis and analytical skills

The hiring range for this position is $176,000 - $242,000. Actual compensation is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, and specific work location due to differences in the cost of labor. In addition to a base salary, this role is also eligible for benefits and equity.
