As the Director of Payroll you would manage all Americas (US, Canada and Latam countries) payroll operations related to employee compensation and benefits. This includes processing of US bi-weekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt workers, coordinating monthly payroll for international employees (bi-weekly for a few foreign jurisdictions), researching discrepancies and identifying and resolving payroll-related issues. This person will have ownership of all payroll processes and procedures including analysis, design & implementation of changes to ensure continuous improvement in accuracy and efficiency, best practice operations and compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and partner with HR to keep all payroll records accurate and up to date
  • Perform monthly payroll close duties, including the preparation of period-end accruals and monthly journal entries for all payroll and benefits, including preparation of reconciliations of payroll accounts
  • Provide formal and ad-hoc analysis of payroll, benefits, and headcount
  • Continuously identify and develop solutions for process efficiency to improve productivity
  • Maintain compliance with all Federal, State and local payroll tax laws
  • Out of cycle/ad hoc payments of employees and production and issuance of manual checks or electronic transfers to bank accounts
  • Lead a global team of payroll professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring to ensure high performance and professional growth
  • Produce audit reports to validate payroll data integrity meeting SOX requirements
  • Support the annual Financial Statement audit, 401k audit, Workers Comp audit, and other audits as required
  • Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters
  • Manage annual preparation and delivery of Form W-2s and 1099’s

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPP preferred
  • 12+ years experience managing processing multi-state payroll and international payroll experience required
  • Highly analytical with strong working knowledge of general payroll protocols, accounting principles and Federal, State and local regulations
  • Advanced skills and demonstrated expertise supporting best practice global payroll processes, systems, policies and key internal controls
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Familiar with Ceridian and Netsuite a plus
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Word
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – able to work effectively with executives and staff and manage external service providers
  • Ability to speak Spanish is considered a plus
  • Proven team player who thrives on working hard with like-minded colleagues in a very collaborative environment
  • Able to maintain total confidentiality and discretion
  • Highly organized and detail oriented

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
• Based in California: $172,000-191,000

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
