Job Description

The Basics

The Director of Security is accountable for the ongoing execution of cybersecurity across Tanium’s corporate estate, including operations, incident response, policy & process development and technology adoption. The role is directly responsible for the overall management of Tanium’s cybersecurity engineering & operations teams, as well as relationships with external partners directly related to Tanium’s cybersecurity program. Lastly, this role works closely with leadership from Product Management and Engineering to champion and advocate for improvements in Tanium’s technologies through internal adoption and continuous, actionable feedback.

What you'll do 

  • Manage, develop, and grow Tanium’s Security Engineering and Security Operations functions 
  • Define and publish cybersecurity policies 
  • Develop, implement, and refine process and technology controls 
  • Monitor, measure and report on the efficacy of Tanium’s cybersecurity program 
  • Thoughtfully engage with IT & Security leadership to define and maintain clear priorities throughout the year  
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to develop thought leadership and viewpoints on relevant industry trends 
  • Collaborate with the internal security and engineering teams to drive feature development and product improvement 
  • Maintain relationships with executive leadership across Tanium to drive alignment between evolving business and cybersecurity requirements  
  • Embrace Kanban as a driving force for efficient, transparent, flexible work management across the security organization 

We’re looking for someone with 

  • Education 
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT or other relevant degree or equivalent work experience 
  • Experience
    • 10+ years of relevant experience in one or more similar roles 
    • Strong knowledge of fundamental cybersecurity domains, such as cloud security, applied cryptography, vulnerability management, incident response, SOC management, EDR, etc. 
    • A reputation as a dynamic, pragmatic, and capable leader in the information security industry 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with past experience authoring industry perspectives and presenting at conferences 
  • Other
    • Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of time expected to travel
