Job Description

Team: Product

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Director, Open Innovation in United States.

This role sits at the intersection of science, strategy, and external collaboration, driving the identification and execution of high-impact partnerships that accelerate innovation in life sciences and biotechnology. The Director of Open Innovation acts as a key connector between internal R&D, commercial teams, and external technology partners to unlock new capabilities and advance scientific platforms. Operating in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, this position shapes how emerging technologies, IP, and strategic collaborations are sourced, evaluated, and integrated into the organization’s broader innovation agenda. With a strong focus on value creation and scientific relevance, the role requires both strategic vision and hands-on deal leadership. It is ideal for a professional who thrives in complex, cross-functional ecosystems and is motivated by advancing solutions that improve global health outcomes.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of strategic partnerships, including opportunity identification, evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and execution of collaboration, licensing, and technology access agreements.
  • Serve as the primary deal lead, aligning internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure successful execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Assess partnership opportunities based on technical feasibility, strategic alignment, and commercial value creation.
  • Negotiate complex deal terms, including licensing structures, exclusivity agreements, milestones, and financial arrangements.
  • Manage active partnerships post-execution, ensuring delivery against defined objectives, governance structures, and performance expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across R&D, strategy, and product development to integrate external innovations into business priorities.
  • Support the development and execution of the broader open innovation strategy in alignment with enterprise goals.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • 10+ years of experience in strategic partnerships, business development, or licensing within life sciences, biotechnology, diagnostics, or related industries.
    • Proven track record of negotiating complex, high-value partnership and licensing agreements.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional deal teams in matrixed environments without direct authority.
    • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to evaluate strategic and financial impact of external collaborations.
    • Excellent executive communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
    • Willingness to travel 25–30% domestically, with occasional international travel.
    • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or PhD) and experience in IP-based partnerships or joint development models strongly preferred.
    • Prior exposure to R&D or product development environments is a plus.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive annual salary range of $150,000–$200,000.
      • Eligibility for performance-based bonus and incentive compensation.
      • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
      • 401(k) retirement savings plan.
      • Paid time off and additional leave benefits.
      • Flexible remote work arrangement within the United States.
      • Opportunity to work on high-impact scientific innovations improving global health outcomes.
      • Inclusive, collaborative, and innovation-driven work culture.
