The Opportunity
This position works out of our Plano, Texas location in the Neuromodulation Division. Our Neuromodulation business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum.
Abbott Neuromodulation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our team in the Product Engineering department. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of firmware for on-market implantable medical devices and surgical equipment. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure that the firmware meets product requirements, and you will contribute to the development of new firmware architectures and design standards. Additionally, you will need to be skilled in electrical engineering practices, provide product life cycle support, and support regulatory submission efforts.
What You'll Work On
- Design, develop, and test embedded firmware for on-market implantable medical devices and surgical equipment
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure firmware meets product requirements
- Develop and maintain firmware design documents, requirements specifications, and test plans
- Contribute to the development of new firmware architectures and design standards
- Identify and solve complex technical problems related to firmware design, implementation, and testing
- Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality and compliance with coding standards
- Provide electrical engineering support to cross-functional teams
- Provide product life cycle support, including design changes and product enhancements
- Support regulatory submission efforts, including documentation of firmware development activities and testing results
- Collaborate with other departments, such as software engineering, hardware engineering, and quality assurance, to ensure successful integration and testing of firmware
- Create firmware that is efficient, reliable, and meets safety standards for implantable medical devices
Pay and Shift [manufacturing only; if applicable]
The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $125,000 based on relevant education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Computer Science or similar engineering discipline
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded firmware development
- Experience in product life cycle support and electrical engineering practices
- Strong programming skills in C and assembly language
- Experience with real-time operating systems, microcontrollers, and embedded systems
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with medical device development and regulatory requirements, including FDA and/or international regulatory agencies, is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of related work experience with a good understanding of the specified functional area.
