ROLE OVERVIEW

Lead the Lab Automation team in building out the existing Lab Automation product to interface with customer instruments via IoT methods, manage instrument and customer supplied data, and develop a platform that other Benchling engineers and third party contributors can build on top of. 

Manage a team of full stack engineers ranging from new grads to senior level. Work with partner teams to integrate the Lab Automation platform and data pieces into the larger Benchling Automation and Analytics strategy. 

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
  • Manage execution of the team working on Lab Automation, which is one of the top priorities for the company

  • Work across multiple partner teams to build a coherent analytics product

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team of exceptional engineers.

  • Manage contractors working independently on data converter products

  • Contribute to the long term platform vision with engineering and product counterparts

  • Partner closely with product and design to define roadmap and long-term product strategy.

ABOUT YOU
  • 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Leader

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with experience as a technical lead on projects that involve multiple engineers across multiple quarters

  • Strong technical skills with an emphasis on platform engineering or IoT 

  • Clear communicator, both written and verbal

  • Experience working with Product and Design counterparts

  • Experience building cloud-based web applications, ideally on both the front- and back-end

  • Grown high-trajectory, early-to-mid-career engineers into leaders with company-wide impact.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • Interest in biotech!

  • Willingness to work in the Boston office 2-3 days a week
SALARY RANGE

Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay.  The candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location. For this role the base salary range is $186,575-$252,425.
