Overview

The Engineering Manager position is a dynamic and unique role, requiring a mix of both technical and non-technical skills.  Engineering Managers at BrainGu are expected to be available as technical advisors/coaches, but we don’t generally expect them to write code or make day-to-day technical decisions for their teams.

As the Engineering Manager, you will primarily focus on maintaining, cultivating, and growing healthy engineering teams along the dimensions of individual skills growth.

Responsibilities
  • Shape policy and implement mentorship for new team members. So that the organization can apply across different projects and teams.
  • Coach direct reports in Agile best practices to ensure successful job performance and career development.
  • Facilitate talent transitions between different projects, teams, or disciplines.
  • Understand, reinforce, and improve upon the established development processes as part of organizational growth.
  • Develop and cultivate engineering group ADRs to manage fast-paced cross-functional projects from end-to-end, covering a range of programs and subsystems.
Requirements
  • This position may require a US Government Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering as an individual contributor.
  • 3+ years of experience mentoring or managing junior engineers.
  • 1+ years as a engineering manager leading agile teams.
  • Agile Certified Practitioner certification
  • Expertise in software engineering using modern, object-oriented programming languages and techniques.
  • Familiarity with containerization infrastructures as code.
  • Familiarity with various serialization formats and/or data exchange methodologies. 
  • Experience writing complex database queries.
  • Experience developing and utilizing appropriate project management frameworks to deliver in a highly technical environment.
