FedNow Product (UX) Designer
The Federal Reserve is developing a new interbank 24x7x365 real-time gross settlement (RTGS) service with integrated clearing functionality, called the FedNow service. This service will help enable financial institutions to provide their customers with the ability to send and receive payments any time, any day, and have full access to those funds within seconds. This position is a unique opportunity to be part of a new mission-critical Federal Reserve initiative that will be transformative to the payments landscape in the United States.
Overview
The Federal Reserve is seeking a Product Designer ( User Experience - UX ) to work on future enhancements to the FedNow Service. The FedNow Service is a new instant payment service that the Federal Reserve Banks are developing to enable financial institutions of every size, and in every community across the U.S., to provide safe and efficient instant payment services in real time, around the clock, every day of the year.

The Federal Reserve Banks provide financial services to depository institutions including banks and credit unions, much like those that banks provide for their customers. The second phase, which might not be complete until after you begin working at the Reserve Bank, is an additional risk-based security screening determined by the risk rating of the position. Depending upon the sensitivity of the position, this phase may include, and is not limited to, work and residency eligibility verification, and personal interviews with the candidate, references, and prior employers.
All applicants must have resided in the United States for at least three (3) years.

Responsibilities
- Ability to collaborate closely with designers, developers, product owners on design outcomes, integration, visuals, & product goals while considering accessibility, performance, and security
- Draft conceptual wireframes, sketches, diagrams, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes
- Ability to take high-level requirements or ideas and iterate to make a user-focused product
- Ability to take initiative and work on features ahead of the product backlog
- Familiarity leveraging and contributing to design systems
- Collaborate with user research to test potential solutions for upcoming features
- Evangelizing user research and customer feedback in product design decisions
- Deliver the right level of detail to support implementation in Agile SAFe environment
Desired Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of product design experience working on consumer or enterprise solutions
- Must have proficiency with product design tools such as Figma, Sketch/Invision, or Adobe XD
- Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, color theory, WCAG 2.1 AA standards, usability best practices, interface interaction patterns, and information architecture
- Must be able to demonstrate a portfolio of shipped products and articulate process
- Familiarity with interactive whiteboard tools and user research platforms
- Background in Design, HCI, Human Factors, or Front-End Development
- Education: Bachelor's in design or Computer Science, another similar field, or equivalent experience as a UX practitioner
- Banking industry experience is a plus, but not required.
