Job Description

The Company

Spot AI was formed by engineers from Stanford, Cisco Meraki, and Samsara, with the mission of visually indexing the physical world and making that data useful to everyone at work.

Backed by Bessemer, Redpoint, StartX, Village Global and others, Spot AI is one of the fastest growing AI companies in the $100 billion video intelligence movement.

With an easy-to-use AI camera system, Spot AI unlocks the power of video data, transforming that into Video Intelligence that helps companies improve their security, safety, efficiency, and more.

In the world of Video Surveillance, security pros would access systems once in a few months to catch the bad guy. In the new world of Video Intelligence, everyone at work - including operations pros, environmental health and safety, security, and the frontline workforce - will all use video intelligence to make better decisions every day.

Spot AI has been quietly building its technology and customer base since founding in 2018, and already has hundreds of customers and thousands of users. Notably, its customers reach well beyond tech early adopters, including companies like Wine Direct, Ruggable,  Extra Space Storage, YMCA, Cheeseman, Mixt, RAHR brewing, and Northland Cold Storage.

Who You Are:

We are looking for a Founding QA Engineer who will be our first engineer to help with our manual and automated QA efforts at Spot AI. As our first QA engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building a positive customer experience by ensuring new and improved features are working seamlessly across the platform. You will use your demonstrated expertise to work cross-functionally with the product and engineering teams to write and execute tests on physical and cloud infrastructure. You care deeply about software quality, operability, and getting the customer experience right the first time.

We are looking for an engineer who will start with manual testing and transition into automation development. You know how to build from ground up – you have seen and worked in excellent startup QA teams and you can leverage the experience to build a QA plan from ground up. You will own the requirement analysis process, build and review the test strategy and design, and lead the test execution for projects across the engineering organization.

What Excites You:
  • Working with and mutually learning from an extremely high caliber engineering team
  • Building and maintaining a test suite, always looking for opportunities to optimize your processes
  • Operating with autonomy and navigating ambiguity in a fast paced environment
  • Working cross-functionally across the entire company to deliver a testing plan that achieves the company’s current and future goals
What Gets Our Attention:
  • 4+ years of experience in the software development lifecycle
  • Deep understanding of quality assurance testing methodology (e.g. performance, unit, integration, automated), their strengths and weaknesses, and the ability to use them effectively
  • Comfortable with manual testing, particularly for firmware releases or testing embedded software
  • Experience transitioning manual testing into automated tests
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Github Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, or Jenkins
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, highly organized
Bonus Skills
  • Experience with ML systems, Cypress.io, APM tools
  • Understanding of Linux automation fundamentals, such as Ansible, Chef, or Jenkins
  • Experience with video pipelines
  • Edge compute experience
