Global Financial Accounting Manager

As a Global Financial Accounting Manager, you will lead and be responsible for the overall performance of a payroll accounting organization. You will drive business value by working collaboratively with both Microsoft teams and external suppliers. You will be expected to lead and develop others and to provide controllership services for people-related expenses delivered through Payroll in over 100 countries. - Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close cycle, including general ledger posting of payroll results; review of account reconciliations; preparation and analysis of accruals; monthly management reporting results.
- Interpret accounting standards and regulatory requirements, in relation to company policies, and apply control processes to ensure policy compliance and risk management per established standards
- As an Org Leader of 70+ and a Direct Manager of 5, build organizational capability and steward talent management resulting in a diverse and inclusive team as measured by standard organizational health KPIs
- Lead a team to implement and execute standard, global processes for key business activities. Drive continuous process improvement and identification of process optimization and/or automation opportunities by soliciting and reviewing business partner and team feedback, leading process workflow design sessions, provides technical expertise, redesigning workflows, partnering with software engineers to redesign systems, and updating processes. Identifies, evaluates, and leverages technology that could automate or speed up internal processes.
- Establish objectives and procedures for the team while leading them through reviews of complex accounting records in compliance with accounting policies and guidelines. Interprets complex reports and records for managers/stakeholders. Provides escalated support and troubleshooting to users. Investigates and resolves business partner inquiries, accounting deviations, and other data anomalies. Drives complex analysis based on data trends. Devises creative solutions to the team's challenging issues.
- Maintain SOX controls and related documentation. Performs governance activities to ensure that the global control activities are executed in compliance with GAAP and SOX regulations. Leads global end-to-end financial cycle risk assessment activities. Leads and drives SOX/Financial control design and implementation. Leads the team and ensures financial compliance activities are appropriately discharged. Provides appropriate guidance to the management and the team on all financial compliance matters. Leads reporting of financial compliance results to management and helps drive appropriate actions.
- Serves as an escalation point of contact to resolve complex issues when governing vendors in a shared services environment. Conducts governance of multiple vendor teams using multiple metrics and service level agreements per the business process outsourcing model to ensure accuracy and compliance. Ensures the team adheres to policy and standards while driving on accuracy, compliance, and risk management. Drives issues resolution with senior-level leaders, multiple business partners, team members, or vendor leadership.
- Proactively manages changing priorities and holds team accountable for deliverables. Acts as a trusted advisor by sharing subject matter expertise across multiple functions.
- 8+ years of Payroll Operations experience in an enterprise-sized company AND 3+ years of people management experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field AND 10+ years of accounting or finance experience AND 3+ years experience managing direct reports, OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field AND 9+ years accounting or finance experience AND 2+ years experience managing direct reports.
- Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent
- A record of financial services industry experience, preferably in the Record to Report function
- Strong analytical skills
- Technical knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
- Knowledge and experience working in major ERP platforms; SAP preferred
- Excellent computer skills with competencies in MSFT applications; advanced Excel skills required
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
- Able to operate in a dynamic, fast-moving environment and manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated presentation and communication skills, specifically with senior-level leaders
- For Colorado Applicants the salary range is: $129,800 to $194,800
- At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
