INTRODUCTION & STORY SO FAR

Tarabut Gateway (TG) is the first and largest regulated Open Banking platform in the MENA, with offices in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UAE. TG connects a regional network of banks and FinTechs via a universal application programming interface (API). By offering tools that allow the facilitation and distribution of personalized financial services, TG enables financial institutions to build a new world of financial services in MENA.

From our earliest days, we quickly became the region’s first applicant to a ‘regulatory sandbox’ through the Central Bank of Bahrain.

The clear objective is to build an infrastructure that accelerates an industry transformation. A multisided platform that connects banks, fintechs, merchants, in the MENA region all on one platform, enabling a new realm of partnerships to be forged.

Fast forward to today, TG is in partnership with the largest banks in many countries. Our products are being built in Bahrain and will be ready to be shipped to other markets. At present we are focusing on scaling up our software engineering and product team to continue to better serve the lives of all 550 million people in the region.

This is the beginning of our journey, and as we see early stage fintech start to emerge in other jurisdictions, there is no better time than now for the TG Platform to play its part in driving this new realm of financial services in MENA.

Requirements

As our Head of Data, you’ll lead our data function. You will be joining the senior technology team, reporting into our CTO and working alongside our Head of Software Engineering and Head of Infrastructure.

As a result of the high growth and our speed of scaling, this is a role that will offer opportunities to move into a director or possibly a VP position. We are looking for someone that can lay the groundwork and build a plan and execution for value creation by means of our data assets and data ecosystem. You’ll be responsible for people, processes, policy and tooling that enable high-performing teams focussing on value through data exploitation and enrichment. You will be expected to contribute to data architecture, modelling/design and be responsible for development, automation, data science and team performance, acting as the bridge between the data team(s) and the wider company.

You will be equipped with resources and budget to build a progressive, modern data function. We seek team players that have low ego but high ambition. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

▪ Experience leading and aligning data team(s) to a business unit or a business problem, and make it clear for your team members what they are there to solve

▪ Experience in data science, data engineering and analytical functions

▪ Demonstrates ability to establish a common vocabulary for the business in the way we think about data. Define what does “BI”, “Decision Science” and "Machine learning” mean in the context of our company, products and mission

▪ Experience working with large and complex datasets, technologies and tools to deliver products and service

▪ Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP (understands serverless technologies), Python, PostgreSQL and selection of technologies that are built for scale and “big data” such as data lakes and warehousing architectures

▪ Demonstrable knowledge of data governance, data security, data quality and fundamental data principles - including design patterns and architecture

▪ Background or education in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science or other related quantitative field

▪ Experience with local and remote/distributed teams preferred

▪ Experience within the fintech, payments or Open Banking space preferred
